Hello, all, I'm getting excited about this year's 40th anniversary of the Texas Renaissance Festival.  I want my garb to be kilt-related, but I want to find one that is fairly inexpensive.  Could someone point me to a site where I can find a kilt for not too much money?  Thank you.

stillwaterkilts.com
usakilts.com
kommandokilts.com

...for starters.   I've dealt with all three, and all are very reputable.
It ain't the years, it's the mileage.

Nothing but good to say about the people at Celtic Croft...always easy, a large line of kilts and almost every accessory you'd need..

Thanks, all, I appreciate that help.  I'll take a look at all the sites you've listed.

stillwater and usa kilts are very good kilts.  I would avoid Kommando though.  In the case of Kommando, you will most likely not be happy with your purchase.  If I recall correctly, these are the same kilts that are sold inside TRF.  They have taken the Utilikilt pleat design and inverted it.  It looks terrible.

Another one to look at is sportkilt.com.  Light weight tartans for decent prices.

I'm very happy with Stillwater kilts.  I own a "Thriifty Kilt" (around $30), and my son owns an "Economy Kilt" (around $50).  They're both acrylic tartans.  They're both the modern kilts, not the greatkilts.  The Thrifty was just velcro closures, so I added straps, buckles, and beltloops.  I'm very happy with the setup.  The Economy model has straps, buckles, and beltloops but no velcro.  Good luck!  Wearing a kilt is amazingly comfortable!

Stillwater seems to have the amazing ability to ship your order before you order.  Fastest shipping I've ever seen!

Here's another option.   http://www.nationkilt.com    I have a black one with side pockets.  Good quality, it's held up well.
Spiced rum....hmmmmm
Greetings, try this.

Oh, remember to take out those white threads that hold the pleats together.  They're just for shipping purposes; the pleats should hang freely.

I have a few kilts and found the standard one from Stillwater to be great.  I also like the wool ones from USAkilt.

From StillWater I ordered and with standard shipping received in a couple days.

If you want something decent in time for TRF , Stillwater Standard or Economy would be the hot setup

how well are the thrifty kilts from stillwater. I want a kilt but not sure i will like wearing one so dont want to break the coin purse on one

Butch

Prothos, I have a "Thrifty Kilt".  They have Velcro for closure, but not buckles and no beltloops.  I wanted more, and being that I sew, I added 3 straps and buckles (with buttonholes through the material) and I added 3 beltloops in the back.

My son has the "Economy Kilt".  Honestly, if you want the straps, buckles and belt loops, spend the extra $20 and get the "Economy" instead of the "Thrifty".  It's a bit better quality (with lining) and the pleats are sewn a bit different.

I was in the same boat as you, not sure which way to go.  I went with the "Thrifty" for around $30.  If I had it to do again, I would probably get the $50 "Economy" for the look.  Nothing wrong with the "Thrifty" for a VERY basic kilt; the acrylic tartan is good, and the Velcro works.  I just felt that I needed beltloops, and I wanted the buckles.  It would have been easier to add Velcro to an "Economy"!

Good luck!

I just bought an Ancient Kilt from Celtic Croft, love it. It's sorta like a great kilt but not so massive. http://www.kilts-n-stuff.com/kilts/ancient-kilts/. You gotta pleat it yourself and wrap it, not that hard but it'll take some practice.

if you need the items shipped in a timely manner i think i would avoid them  http://www.highlandkilt.com/
. I ordered the kilt on
09/12/14  received a notice that it was being shipped on 09\18\14.  after checking shipping it didnt go out.
Contacted them on 09\22 and was told it was going out that day.  Checked shipping again and it still hasnt gone out.
when i ordered the item i told them the day i needed it by and was told that wont be an issue.

I guess next step is to cancel the order and contact the credit card to dipute the charges as they have already charged the card.
