Fire Damages Buildings at Des Moines Renaissance Faire Site

DES MOINES, Iowa —Des Moines fire crews were called to a fire at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex just before 2 a.m. Monday.

Someone spotted smoke from the road. Three fire crews ended up working together to put the fire out.

The fire destroyed buildings in the area where the Des Moines Renaissance Faire holds annual events.

No one was there at time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

These were popular food shops. Initial thoughts are that it was electrical related.

Another source says it was a storage building on the far south end of the faire area.  Is that the one near the castle stage?

It was definitely not storage. It's the Pizza shop, Off with your Bread, and the Bavarian Cafe. The earlier article was wrong.

  Crap.  Off with your bread and the Pizza shop are the bomb. Any other booths/shops sustain (smoke) damage?

The map indicates that fire involved the booth areas #5,#6,and 7 just north of the gate area near Canterbury Plaza, across from the Minstrel Stage.

"As you may have heard, crews responded to a fire at Festival Park (home of the Des Moines Renaissance Faire and Sleepy Hollow’s Haunted Scream Park) around 2:00am this morning. The fire was contained to three vendor buildings, and did not spread to any of Sleepy Hollow’s main buildings or attractions.
   Although the cause of this fire is under investigation, nobody was present at the time of the fire and there were no injuries. We are all shocked to hear this news, however, this occurrence will NOT affect any of Sleepy Hollow’s activities or festivals held throughout the year. We plan to have these three small buildings rebuilt in time for the 2015 Des Moines Renaissance Faire, held the first three weekends of September."
