Hello Everyone!! I just got back from Costume College and we should have pictures up yet but they should be soon as most of us came home tonight!!

I have so much to do and say!

We are making Henricians or early Tudor for 12th Night (SCA) and an event at www.GBACG.org in February.  So if any of you all are in No Cali? You might want to join us as we make these awesome gowns!

Yawn!

I would love to have gone, but since they seemed to have sold out before it was even over last year I was not able to obtain tickets to go.  I started requesting info the day after it ended last year and never once received a reply.  I learned elsewhere months later that they sold out before the last day of the college.  That was a bit frustrating...  hehehe.  Did the same thing happen this year?  Do you know if we can purchase tickets for next year, or did they sell out already again?  Any info you can give would be greatly appreciated.

P.S.  I am glad you got to go and look forward to your pictures and stories :)
Am I jealous??  hmmm....  yeah !!!  lol

What is Costume College, and where does it take place?  I am in the Placerville area and might be interested. I also have a friend in the Oroville area who does SCA and also might be interested.

DesertRose,

You are most certainly correct they did sell out at the event.  The webmaster? He f**'d up and never did what they wanted on the website and they took the site back and are now doing a remodel of the site so that it will be more efficient. There are I think 350 slots for Costume College and they filled from the past year.  2009 will be different, so I suggest you put in fro the Membership for CWG (Costumer's Guild West), because this next year will be a lottery and only members will get to be part of the first pick.  Then Sister Members and other people.  I know there were a LOT of people who were very upset that the wait list was not up on the site and that NO ONE got any response from people.  The person did not set up the links correctly so the emails went into cyberland.  It is not yet fixed at this time, because they are redoing the site as we speak.  Also? They limit this venue to 350 people but really? The hotel had another event at the SAME time!!! So the hotel can handle 1400 people, I think Costume College could handle 500 to 600 people, but they need more teachers and?? Volunteers!!!! I am putting myself in that since I volunteered for the past 3 years and I will be doing more this next year hopefully, my issue is that I live in Northern California, but people come in from England (Yep that is what I said) to attend so if they can do that??? !!!!  Then so can I !!!

I taught this year on 16th Century Fabrics and how to achieve them in modern day, it was just an overview and I had 35 people in my little room!!!!  There is not a lot of Renaissance teachers and I am always pushing for more!  I have put in a proposal for a PaperTape Body Double Workshop, And a Tudor/Elizabethan Shirte Workshop.  I am hoping for one on Saturday and the other on Sunday of the event.  It is a great time and I have been sucked in by the Regency period (Okay so I bought a hat okay!) I am making at least 2 gowns for next year!

Lady Toadflinger!!!

It's not so much a  matter of money to attend Costume College, it's TIME!!!

There is something I want to take classes on making. That is a STANDING UP RUFF worn in the middle to late 1590's. That for me would be a wonderful challange.

One of the most difficult things I have found while having fun with the Costume College, when I began they had a lot of classes focused on Renaissance. we had PoB (Corset), Smocks, we had a lovely lady come from Texas and give a grand talk on the Elizabethan Body type and how it is achieved. As time went on especially in the last 4 years there seemed to be a stoppage on anything to do with anything earlier than the 1700's.  I am all for other time periods, but it seemed CC has been focusing on the 1800's more than any other time.  It could be because these costumers who come have been doing costuming for so long and the 80's was the height of the Renaissance, that perhaps it has just gotten old for them.

However, looking at the costumes being worn to the Gala, 30% of those people were wearing Renaissance gear. So one would think that while they also adore other periods, they too have a fondness for the 16th Century.

The last time Costume College made any foray into the past, past the 1700's was 6 years ago, and there was not a lot there, they did 1400's.  We had less than 10 classes pertaining to that era.

The issue also could be that Costume College does not go out and find teachers, it relies on people coming to them, so if you don't know about Costume College? You will not know they need teachers in this area, and so it is a self defeating system. People must not want early period because we don't or aren't getting the teachers for early period......

2009 is also the 1800's but I have asked if they could do either Tudor or Elizabethan for 2010.  But who knows?
However my class was well attended and it was a unlimited class.

I am planning to do a Workshop on Shirt/Smocks for Saturday or Sunday.  We are also hoping to get a Paper Tape Double Workshop, also because people said they did not know how to obtain a very inexpensive Body Double.
