Does anyone do anything different during the hot summer without Renfaires than they do during the cold winter without Renfaires?  I'm biding my time right now and making plans for October faires in the area.

The summer break in Oklahoma isn't as long as the seemingly unending winter break.  At least in March, one can sneak down to Texas for a good faire.  I've been to the Colorado Renfest in years past for a summer fix but it has been a while.

Fortunately in my area (Delaware, NJ, and PA) there are a few things to keep us going. The New Jersey RenFaire just completed a 3 weekend run. Tomorrow is the Fantasy Faire at Wheaton Arts in NJ. The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire runs beginning of August through the end of October. A little more far afield is the Maryland Renfaire which goes from the end of August into October. Instead of hot and sweaty at home, I can be hot and sweaty at Faire.

mainly I come here and read posts and look through photos while the A/C is maxed out. It's hot , humid and sticky down here by the Gulf o M. No one is crazy enough to have a summer renfest down here. So short answer , hang out here . If you know of other sites plz inform us all.

Here in the Midwest, our Faires start in May and run through the end of September.  Over the winter, my husband and I try to go somewhere south (where it's warmer) and try to plan it so we can hit a faire in the area.

Edit:  For a while, we used to have Renaissance dinners.  We had faire friends who were close enough to meet up and have dinner. We would all dress in garb and play CDs from the different performers from faire.  The table would be decorated like a Renaissance banquet.

beware the hurricane season has already begun for us on the gulf coast . nothing nasty has come our way yet but we can get hit up until about Nov. don't let a hurricane chase you away from a faire tho. It will be real and not reenactment just like our renaissance fore fathers and mothers had to deal with. Although Europe is generally cooler than the deep south US.

Thanks for the feedback.  I guess I should not complain.  Those way up north may not have two faire seasons each year, just one longer one in the middle of the year.  The same probably goes for those along the southern part of the States.

Husband and I love to play World of Warcraft, fish and kayak, and go out to free-ish places with better A/C than our house!

We also have a "garb day" once and awhile where we break out the garb, inspect it, wear it around the house/out and about, and make sure all is ready for faire. It really helps to cut down on last minute garb freakouts when you're getting ready for faire, and it also puts you in a faire mood!

I like the "garb out" idea.  That makes sense to be prepared for faire.  I should set my tent up once in a while as well between seasons to see how much faster I can do that and take it down.

craigmeister how big of a tent do you have ? I think it's a cool idea to break out the garb and check it out and wear it . its funny how something like wearing garb can bring back great memories and put one in a "faire" mood. The hectic schedule of life with its day in and day out mundane aggravations can almost take away the renfaire spirit. That's why I like this site as I can come here daily and unwind and still be surrounded by what makes me happy and peaceful.

Lord Argyl, I just have a 10' x 10' popup.  I usually set it up in the driveway on Halloween and decorate it with a different theme each year.  Last year, it was space.  This year will be sports.

These forums are a great place to dig into and get away from the rat race.  I also like to listen to the Renaissance Festival podcast, work on my website and crank out new Renfest videos to get a faire feel.

Yeah Craigmeister , I understand about the rat race. I unwind here on the forum with my renaissance music playing. I need to check out the pod casts .  Seems like you have a nice setup with your tent and website. I hope you do put out more videos, I for one certainly enjoy them and appreciate the work you put into to them.

I usually listen to Celtic music as well when I'm checking out the Forums here.

Thank you, Lord Argyl.  I'm updating my website this summer so it should look more modern soon.

I'm also going to put out a video on the Avalon Faire in Kilgore, Texas this summer.  I'll follow it up with a video of Tullamore from an earlier performance at the Oklahoma Scottish Festival.  It's coming up in September at its new site in Broken Arrow.
