I was lucky, I got power about 5PM on Saturday.  Now I just have to deal with the gapeing hole in my dining room ceiling.

Life is good.

Don't you usually have to pay good money for dining alfresco?   ;)  ;D

Finally getting a chance to check in.  My work was desperate enough for me that they said I could bring the boy.  We made it thru fine.  The house had no damage, just some downed limbs.  We are still without power and have no idea when it will come back on.  We are now housing some friends who lost everything in Galveston.  There are now 9 of us trying to handle being in a 3 bdrm house (5 of which are under the age of 7).  My wonderful neighbor has been supplying me with coffee....

I have just spent the last half hour reading this thread.  Reminded me of just how special my Renfamily is.

My friends, I am in good health.  The people of Grand Turk lost NO lives with IKE.  The population on our small island is about 3300 people.  I can tell you that most of them still have homes...damaged...but there.  As I look off my balcony I see a sea of tarps, blue and white.  Some people lost entire roofs.  A few lost their entire homes.

The Royal Navy came and went.  The red cross passes through each day with supplies, (water bottles, mosquito nets, etc.)

We still have no power but have been assured that it will be restored in two more weeks.  We're living basically 100 years in the past at the present.  Cell phones are working intermittently.  Water is drawn by buckets.

All my belongings were soaked by rain which came in my room via broken windows and damaged roof.  The ceiling collapsed.  Good thing I wasn't in there.  My kitties and my 3 legged dog are well.

My pirate hat that I bought in Minnesota was under all the rubble.  All the favors on it suvived with the exception of the "Festmum" nametag I received in Minnesota.  Good thing I had another one from TN!!!

Carnival plans to have their first cruise ship in by October 8th.  Quite an ambitious goal.  If it does happen, I will have work again.  My landlord is giving me rent next month for free as I was the one who protected her property and helped to clean it up.

I have been provided a generator to power my fridge and fan and a light.  I can charge my phone and my computer.  Cable & Wireless (our phone/internet provider) has set up a temp wireless network within a mile radius of their office.  I just happen to live 3 houses down from them.  This is how I've been able to post this note.

For those who were in Ike's path in the states.  My thoughts have been with you.  I can't wait to be on the forum in a more permanent state.  I've missed you all!

Thanks for your kind thoughts and prayers!

Such good news! It's been hard getting the whole story up here. Even from Texas rumours fly. Very glad to hear the island expects to be open for tourism so soon.

Did you get your song written yet? :)

So happy to hear you and the furbabies made it through all right!  If you listen out your window, you'll hear a huge sigh of relief coming from the States.  We've all been very worried!
