Thanks, Rebecca! I was having enough technical difficulties getting my own *front* (and not the inside of the closet, or the wall; or if I got my front, I was at a crazy angle, and... yeah.)! But next time I'll give it a try.

The cord is the wider hemp cord (1/4" IIRC) that you can get at Hobby Lobby or JoAnn. My journey with hemp cord boning has been documented on these boards--from before I got my new machine and *could not*, for the life of me, get the cord into the channels... to when I got my new machine and finally figured it out... to finding discarded windshield wipers in my garage (you use the blade to push the folded cord through the channels)... to working on a hemp-corded version of my pink Simplicity corset (which has been put on hold at the moment). I'm so pleased with this bodice, though, that I'm already planning on making it again as a corset for all those Italian gowns I want to make!

How much support does the cord give?

***Gentlemen, please look away for a moment.  ;)***

I'm a DD/DDD cup, and you can see how it looks. I haven't yet ever finished a corded garment (so no all-day wearings to report), but from my test runs of mockups, I actually prefer the support of hemp cord to rigid boning, because it conforms to the shape of your body better. I'm very thin below the bust, so I have to be laced crazy tight into my corsets to stop, well, gravity from getting the better of my assets.  ::) But the hemp curves a little, so it offers better support under the bustline and keeps everything in place better.

I'm learning, though, that it's more about fit and construction than it is about how much/what kind of boning. What gives *this* bodice such fantastic support is the curved seam/front opening, which allows me to get a really snug fit under the bustline without having to squash everything completely flat against my ribcage. (Snug straps are also helpful.)

...The problem, of course, is that a curvy front is only desirable for some of the Renaissance, some of the time. Ah, well.  The next technique I want to try is Ninya Mikhaila's bodice boning diagram, which is supposed to give the right Tudor silhouette to a larger bust without gapping along the neckline. There's a whole thread on that article here from back early in the spring IIRC.

Here you go!  IIRC, actually accessing the article Kate posted was a little tricky, but I think most of us found it.

For taking pictures of my garb, I set my camera on a bookshelf at a good height to take pictures (before the bookshelf, I stacked books on a table to get the right height) and I use the autotimer function. I place a hand mirror behind the camera so that I can see that my garb is straight and that I'm not making faces (through the hand mirror I can see the screen on the back of the camera).

Gem, that curved front dress is amazing. I have to tell you that I so admire you, you aren't afraid to tackle anything, no matter how hard; you ask a million questions, so we all learn through your work; and you are so detail oriented and wanting everything to be right, and your work comes out beautiful. You are such an inspiration. :)

Lady R, I'd say the back looks about right.  Try  bending forward and rounding your shoulders: if it sticks out. you can cut it down a bit...

Pox. It's on page 7, and Kate posted it: "A little historical accuracy," or something like that.
