yeah!! I have gotten this far! I have to do some hand sewing and this will take me a little bit as I am still having issues stemming from the surgery.  I just wanted to show how far I have gotten in the past couple of weeks!  Skirt is next and then the hook and eye and the lining will be added to the Doublet and it will be done!

Another reason I <3 LOVE <3 this forum!! ~ I did quite a bit of searching online, and it was very difficult to find any information on Elizabeth (Erzsebet) Bathory that seemed free of fantasy and fictionalization (as much as any re-telling can be), and yet here, within a short period of time more accurate portrait is posted  ;D

I've only managed to find a few books about her, and most of them seem to be more novelizations or at least based in historical facts with wide liberties taken...if anyone could point me in the direction of stronger biographical works, I would be most appreciative!

Sorry, this is a bit of a hijack, but have you seen the website www.infamouslady.com?  It has some newer research about the Countess from a new book about her called Infamous Lady.  I just found that website a few days ago because I was just reading a novel about her.

Thank you, Princess Sarah! I hadn't found that site in my (very limited thus far) research, but it looks to be loaded with great information!  :)

The doublet is looking lovely!  I hope your recovery is speedy!

Beautiful Doublet, Cilean!!!

Spent 5 hours cutting out this ensemble, the 2nd of 3 for the play I am working on.

Talk about lots of pieces! I cut out a seperate blouse to be work underneath the Vest/Jacket. Of the Jacket, I cut out the fashion fabric, underlining for the fashion fabric, and lining. The skirt is one huge piece that wraps around. There are pleats to give the draped effect in the front. I had to piece together to the skirt fabric because the 45" width was not wide enough for the pattern, as you can see in the photo.

I am debating to put the piece in the back on with the false lapel. That is an odd shaped piece in and of itself. Nothing like the photo at all. I have to underline the Skirt fabric because it is a broadcloth weight and sheer. So I will have to get a 54" width fabric of equal weight to lay out as  one large piece. Perhaps Drapery lining. I will need over 3 yards for it all to fit.

Photos will be posted as I progress.

Cording progress.  Almost done, except... I don't like it.  I was trying to save fabric so I cut the front of the bodice on the bias, with the back on the straight grain.  Blah!  And I don't have enough to do a re-cut. What to do, what to do...

Thank gem for the links.  One of those links led to another link and another... that led to a site that gave me that ahhhhhhhh!!!! moment.  Pulling it through backwards is the best!  I still had to go with the cotton cording as the only hemp available was to big ror way too small.

Lady Kathleen, I cannot wait to see more pics, I LOVE that outfit!!

I'm almost done with my 1890 Victorian bathing suit!  I just have to hem and add trim to the skirt, and add more buttons and buttonholes. yay!

Ohmigosh, that is the cutest thing EVER!  Are you really going to swim in it??

Lady Rebecca

Super cute! What sort of fabric is it?

I TOTALLY want to crash someone's pool party and swim in it, but I'm afraid the chlorine will discolor it.  How fun would it be to try swimming in a corset and the suit??

Rebecca, it's made from linen. :)

Oooooh, or stand at the beach and be poshy, like Natasha Little in the 1998 Vanity Fair series (which, by the way, is utterly fantastic).

Valencia

Thanks, you guys!! I super love it. And I would so wear it to hang out in; I'm hoping to attend some steampunk events this year, maybe I could wear it to one of those. I am going to do the hat, I have to make a hat for the amethyst Victorian outfit first. :)

Cute! I'd stay in the shallow end for sure. That'd be hard to actuallyswim in. Wasn't for nothing that beaches had ropes installed out into the water so ladies would have something to hang onto. Course a cute lifeguard would work just as well.  :D
