Lady Kathleen of Olmsted

The Overskirt for the Bathory Gown is ready to be cartridge pleated and sewn onto the waistband. When that is finished, I have a shirt to cut out and make for the  KING at the Chippewa Valley Renaissance Festival.

Photos coming.

The Overskirt to Tygrcat's Bathory gown is finished. My fingers are bitten up, but they feel good.

The Overskirt, as will the Bodice and Headpiece, will be made from a Blood Red Cotton Velveteen. The Skirt is Cartridge pleated. There are 4-45" panels tht make of this skirt.

Closeup of the trims that I will also be using for the Bodice.

The Cartridge pleating using the 1" Gingham method.

Next up, the unusual Ruff and headpiece. I have to do some drawing and gameplanning on the Ruff. One of the most unusual i have ever seen.

Two muslin shirts are done!  His hat is done!  Putting the blackworked sleeves one off for about a week, since I must complete at least one set of trousers.  After the trousers, will finish the blackworked shirt (still have to make the ruffled cuffs and collar), and then will make the jacket.  All is coming along very nicely, and well ahead of schedule.

You all have been so terribly productive. What a blitz of production!
I did Sarah's new gown for this weekend yesterday.   Skirt, forepanel, bodice and chemise.   Now all I need are hanging sleeves and hat.    She is supposed to be adding trim today while I am at work.  Let's just see about that!

DonaCatalina

I have been doing so many repairs during the run of Scarby that I haven't been able to put much time into the new two-tone green gown.
1. add more slashing to Mr.Pearly and replace a few pearls.
2. Lengthen the sleeves on the cerulean blue Spanish gown.
3. Make new Venetian red sleeves for his lordhip's blue and gold doublet.
4. completely disassemble pale blue shirt to make new collar and cuffs.

and then my main machine decided that his annual servicing had to happen in the middle of the week so I am back to my denim-pro which is ok, but is very manual.

Okay, very close to being done but still in progress. Need to find buttons and/or some type of closers for the doublet and sleeves.

Working on a new loose pocket, in a decoration technique called "ricamo". Basically, it's stitching down cord(s) in a decorative way. I'm using brocade scraps from my Venetian dress, and a gold cord. I'm halfway done, or soon anyway.

Very nice!!

The Victorians did  similar with Soutache. Which is what I plan to do one of these days to some Vintage Morree Taffetta I have for an Edwardian Boarding suit I want to make.

I've been told couching is also a modern equivalent. It's no wonder this technique lives on - you get a good result with relatively simple means! But I'll use a softer gold cord next time around. This doesn't bend too well in the corners, making the result a bit uneven. But I love the actual technique.  :)

DonaCatalina

I must say you are getting a stunning effect out of it. And I was taught this technique years ago as 'couching'. So someone has decided its another name for the same thing.

The black leather doublet for my current show is built.  I tried it on the guy, and he is just drooling over it, and I haven't even added the studds and trim yet.  ;D Trim has been ordered.  I have studds to add on.
Saddly I  wasn't able to get shots of him during fitting, but at the next one I will.
So far i've gotten some whifs that I might get some commissions out of it.  Even the PP has been eyeing it.  I'm not sure how it would work out to see him trying to go to scarby in a pink leather doublet.  ;D
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.
