When it comes to Buttons, Trims, Clasps, Aglets, etc, www.pillagedvillage.com is the first place I go to. I have been doing business with them for 11 years now. Their service is top notch, as is their merchandise.

The Buttons I used for your Over the Bodice Partlet, came from Pillaged Village. That particular button, they are out of because I tried to order them again. Must have been very popular.

  Lady Kathleen,
I think I might even be able to use that same partlet with the new gown, come to think of it.  The velvet you used is richer than the velveteen I am using, but should not be that obvious.  It will help me decide the trim for the dress ^_^.
My clasps are on the way.  I ordered a slightly different and a bit more elaborate clasp from PV for 2.95.  I did find them in Hancocks today for $3.00;  but I'm not paying shipping so I'm coming out ahead.
Hancocks also has the 'romance' clasps that Lady Isabella used for $2.75, if anyone wants to see what they look like close up.  However they didn't have more than a couple of pairs.
What doesn't kill me-had better run.

I'm on my next project now -due Feb 4th!   It's an 18th C Robe a la Francaise.   I fixed my stays today and cut out a pair of pocket hoops.  Tomorrow, I'll work on draping the mock up out of the 20 million yards of blue brocade I have.  (I bought a bolt of the stuff a couple of years ago at Pennsic for $20.  It's a acetate cotton blend but it has a period print on it and the weight is right to figure out how to drape the Francaise.)

The real Francaise is out of teal silk taffeta with this lovely mauve and gold lace trim I'll add to it.

The colors are off but, hopefully, y'all get the idea.

That's going to be so beautiful. Love the teal silk.

The family garb project in Purples and Golds for Allerick is on its way.

After a trip to JoAnn's tomorrow, I start on Lady Kett's family garb project, get things ready on Lord dragon's Captain Teague coat, as well as finish some loose ends before I take my trip to Nevada on the 31st of January for 2 weeks. Very busy week ahead.

The mock up of the sack back gown!  I'm going to work on it some more tomorrow.  Today it's finish up the Spanish Surcote I promised to make three weeks ago and get it in the mail!

Ladt Kett! I bought oodles of a nice deep Navy Bottom Weight Cotton that will make a nice  sturdy drawstring Petticoat and Underskirt for Katie's Tudor gown. More Canvas Duck for Bodice underlinings and Corset, Drapery Cotton for Katie's Farthingale. I will be keeping Elizabeth busy while I am gone.

I will get the Bodice muslins made for you and Katie and sent to you before I leave.

No worries, Lord Dragon! I will be prepping your coat to take with me on my trip.

I have the Doublet and Shirt cut out for the husband of Lady Kett.

The Doublet is a Deep Navy Blue Brocade that will be underlined with a light weight cotton Denim for more body, then a Royal Blue Cotton lining. Plenty of piping to add a dressier touch, loops, and Silver Buttons.

The shirt will have a Royal Blue decorative stitch design that will go nicely with a kilt. The finish for the ruffs will have a serged edge with a sewn design as the rest of the shirt, and , knife pleats. Silver buttons for the shirt.

The shirt for Lady Kett's husband is finished. I had to redo some sewing of the neck band to the shirt body because I was not happy with some of the gathers.

I did a little somethoing different with the front opening to allow for loops and buttons. I used Wide Single Fold Bias. Topstitched it down, then did decoraticve stitiching in Royal Blue as seen. In lieu of lace on the ruff edge, I opted for a rolled serged edge with the decoraticve stitching instead.

Rather than do Double stacked box Pleats, I did single and gently gathered to get a softer figure 8.

The Doublet is underlined, serged, has the shoulder wings on, as well as the collar. A Royal Blue Piping dresses up the Doublet. Silver buttons and Blue cording for loops will give a Noble look without it being overpowering. Photos coming.

Now THAT'S a good-lookin' shirt! Love that blue! I should experiment with similar embroidery/effects... looks sooo nice. Can't wait to see the doublet, too!

And... I am so envious of your patience! That you redid ANY of the sewing because you were not happy with SOME of the gathers... I suppose if I was making something for someone else I might be wiser about such things, but when sewing for myself as I usually am... I just shrug and carry on! Bravo to you for that... maybe I can learn that skill (patience :D) from you, too!

Unfinished Doublet front.

Button detail. I ordered these from the Pillaged Village. They are gorgeous in the flesh.

Piping detail...

The Doublet fabric from JoAnn's in underlined in a medium weight cotton Denim for more body, yet light for those Faire days at Scarby. I love to PIPE. Piping adds a nice finishing touch to garb without overpowering the garment. The buttons go with a theme as to why I am making this. Hence the Blue decorative stitching on the shirt. The Doublet Pattern is one from Fantasy Fashions that I have had for over 10 years now.

This doublet will not have Skirting or waist treatments, for it will be worn with a Kilt. One wants to have the Tartan show as well as the Sproan. I will have the bottom hem edge of the Doublet piped.

Lady Kett's Venetian Gown that I have in then works will be made of this fabric as well.
