Laura, did you get finished? SO cute! Milord and I were talking garb at Fair today, and I told him that one of the reasons I love doing middles is that once you nail the fit, they always look perfect. I love all the fun layers of skirts and bodices and belts and *stuff* of the Fairwear look--but I never feel like I'm actually pulling it off. But whenever I wear my H/A working-class garb, I know that it turned out exactly like I wanted it to. (He's been asking me why I keep making so much "prim" stuff!)

I put the suede guards on my FIL's doublet this weekend!

Of course, because I NEVER do, I forgot to take into account the seam allowances, so I'm going to have to fudge things a bit when I sew it all together--because that suede is NOT MOVING! LOL

I was asked for my picture 3 times this saturday in my faire-wear and *none* taken in my middles the previous 2 weekends! What's up with that?! But the Village Seamstress befriended me in my middles, so I guess I have nothing to complain about lol!

Looks good Gem! Love the blue!

That TERRIFYING feeling when Joann's only has the EXACT amount the pattern calls for and you know you have to not mess up at all... Thank God I was already planning on a cheap cotton mockup for the boyfriend's doublet...

I'm almost done with the bodice for the Elizabethan gown I'm making for my wife. I'd post the photo here, but Photobucket isn't letting me upload and Flickr isn't letting me paste in the photo, so here's a link:

Yep, that's one shoulder roll and sleeve cap on, one not there yet. I'm using Simplicity 2589 for the bodice and skirt, but removing the sleeves and adding sleeve caps and the shoulder rolls and waist tabs from Simplicity 3782. I was just going to use 3782, but I didn't like the way that bodice was pieced together.

Here's Iain's bodice!

That's looking beautiful!

I havent posted in ages, Garb for me or the DF has been the last thing on my mind.....and here is why http://flic.kr/p/d5YFRb

this was what I had done at the end of the competition wich was my push to get back into sewing after being pregnant for last season. The doublet still needs sleeves, and the shirt has tatting waiting to be attached to collar & more embroidery on the cuffs & collar.

for some wierd reason i cant get the imbedd image to work.....Didnt think i was that rusty..sheesh!
I want to play with your head like a drunk kitten:)

Kate XXXXXX

That is almost unbearably cute!   ;D

Looking very nice indeed!!!

Yes, I see that brocade everywhere. I didn't want to use it for that reason, but my wife really loves it, and it's her dress. Yesterday I got the other shoulder roll and sleeve cap sewn on, as well as the tabs. Now it's on to the skirt. Then the sleeves and forepart. And a French hood. And another set of sleeves and forepart. And ...

Gosh, when am I going for find time to make myself two kilts, two plaids and a doublet?

I would suggest pearl clusters in places on the front  of the Bodice to break it up a bit.

It's a popular brocade, but oh well.  It's all about how you embellish it.  I'm using the same fabric, but in green.  It looks nice, it's easy to work with, and it's relatively cheap.  I built up a stash of it in various colors when everything was 50% off at Joanns.  My lady has been watching my progress on my garb, and she wants me to make her an outfit with it for next year.

As for my in progress project, I suffered a pretty big setback.  I learned about the concept of nap direction the hard way.  The panes on my slops are a corduroy material, and half of my panes had the nap going up, and the other half going down.  Didn't notice it until I brought them up into the daylight, the color difference is pretty obvious.  I had to take everything apart and realign the panes in one direction.  Won't be making that mistake again... what a pane <pun is intentional  ;D>.
If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.

Baahhhh...I *hate* when that happens! We've all done it, and no, you *won't* do that again.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH! I've got pearls on the shoulder rolls and the waist tabs and skirt guards, and now you -- correctly -- say I need to put pearls on the front too? All I can say is, since beading drives people crazy, I'm just glad it's a short trip for me.

Wait, that's not all I can say. I can also say, is there any way for you to illustrate what you mean by pearl clusters and where? I was considering putting pearls on the bodice front but could not figure out an attractive way to do it. I'll post what I did with the waist tabs and guards in a bit; I used a geometric brocade for those.

OK, here is the bodice with both shoulder rolls and sleeve caps, and tabs. To the right are the skirt guards:
