I rarely post pics of my garb but I'm "finishing" (it's never *really* finished, is it?) up my first ever noble gown and hope to wear it with all the pretties this weekend at MNRF.  I look forward to sharing my accomplishment with so many talented R/F'ers.

So many choices to make...! Everything I started had to be stopped and rethought a dozen times over before finally making a decision. Ugh! I love how it's turning out but (yikes!) I don't know how many more of these I'll do. Ugh.
Nothing clever to say here.  Not enough caffine yet.

A new Commission for an upcoming June 2013 Wedding that I will be doing. This gown is the INSPIRATION that the client wants similar to.

The ensemble will consisit of a lined Corset Bodice that laces in the front and back with purple ribbons. The main fabric will be a Creme Dupioni Silk, with a Creme Bridal Satin Binding. There will be a seperate Chemise with long flowy sleeves in an Embroidered  Chiffon or soft Organza. Chiffon preferred.

The skirt will be several layers, with a Crinolin underneath for poofing. Silk Flowers in various sizes will decorate the Corset and Outer skirt layer in Purples.

The Finishing touch will be a long hooded Cloak in Creme  and Purple(inside) Dupioni Silk, with flowers sewn about the cloak.  I am in the process now of assembling the fabrics together for the client to assess before I get started.

I already have the Corset pattern that the client loved that will work perfectly for. http://butterick.mccall.com/b5662-products-14512.php?page_id=916

2013 is already looking to be busy and 2012 is not over yet!

Oh... how lovely!  I can't wait to see the finished gown!

I would love to have this in a deep forest green... or even a garnet!

After many headaches, I finally completed my slops!  I still need to add something to close the fly, probably hook and eyes, but other than that, finished!  I just need to get buttons sewn to my doublet, and the outfit will be complete.

Yay for poofy pants!
Actually they turned out great. I would love to see the whole ensemble in situ.  ;D

Thanks everyone!  Learned a lot about sizing when making them, even more so than with the doublet.  I made them based off of the muslin, but the leg bands ended up being too small, didn't account for the thickness of the fabric.  So I had to pull them apart and redo them.  Then, I didn't pay attention to the fabric nap of the panes (they're corduroy), some of them had the nap going up, some going down, and it was noticeable.  So, again, I had to pull them apart and realign them.   After all those issues, I'm happy they ended looking as good as they do, I'm pretty proud of them.

The whole outfit will be making it's debut at MI ren fest this weekend.  I'll be sure to post pictures in the finished projects thread.
If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.

Good case in point, when working with fabrics with a nap....

MAKE DAMN SURE all pieces are laid going in the same direction.

That  includes Cotton Velveteens, Velours, Suede cloth, even some brocades that have texture. We've all done what you did, Sir Niall! You are not alone.

Smashing, Niall!  I'm so impressed with how you've dived in at the deep end!

I have finished my black skirt with the pinked suedecloth guards! It is too adorable, and came out exactly as I'd pictured!  :D  Here are two really horrible pictures (hoping to get better ones for the Finished Projects thread outside at Fair):

And a closeup (sort of; Picturetrail resized it for me  ::)) of the guards:

I love the oomph they add to the hemline!

And gratuitous shot of my photography assistant, clearly working her paws to the bone:

Wickedvox

Oh Gem, particularly lovely! That skirt just *pops!* I need guards...and proper cartridge pleating *sigh.* And your assistant looks *exhausted!* You should stop working her so hard.

I second that gem. The skirt looks fabulous!!! AS will the rest of the ensemble when you are finished with it.

I've been working on the mockup for my high-necked smock from that embroidered muslin, and I'm finally ready to dive in to the real version.

I went a little crazy and did complete, finished tests of the collar and sleeve cuffs (complete with ruffles, facings, embroidery, and ties)--and I'm really glad I did! Even at a size extra small, they are way too loose on me, and I ended up cutting them down by at least two inches. And I've decided I definitely want more fullness in the ruffles. As always, when I do smock mockups, I wish I hadn't marked all over this one, and that I'd gone ahead and finished the yokes & seams (and maybe put in a second sleeve! LOL) so I could have *two* new smocks!  ;D

This is proceeding a lot slower than I expected, but I'm very pleased with how it's going.

Wickedvox

Put in the other sleeve!! What's the embroidery on the collar and cuff? Do you have an embroidery machine or are you *that* good? It looks so uniform! You're making me want to start *my* smock.

Is that more Lily 'mockwork'?   ;)  It does look very effective.

I'm still doubleting...  This time a silver one for me!

That fabric on the left really does look like Bacofoil!

The assistant is photogenic also!
