I feel your pain, Silverstah.

I have a rather long torso--disproportionately long--and after having to grapple with those pesky wrinkles many times, I've started (as of the last couple of projects) to routinely baste the skirts to the bodies about 3/4 to an inch higher than my natural waist--then I hang the thing high enough that nothing is touching the floor so that the weight of the skirts finishes pulling whatever it's going to pull on the bodies as well as itself--then I re-fit it to me.  In the case of my tudor gown, the "waist" ended up being a couple of inches above my natural waist at CB in order to get the right look & fit.  I don't know if you have the time to just "let it hang" but if you do, it might spare you some aggravation.

I have a similar gown to the one that you're making that hasn't been worn in a few years, and when I looked at it the other day I thought that I should rig a way to keep the weight of the skirts from dragging on the bodies while it's hanging on a hanger in the closet because it's looking pretty stretched.  I hope I don't have to re-do the waistline.

P.S. Do you also have a long torso/waist?

I find that it's the bodices of my gowns, not the skirts, that seem to have all the weight--but no matter; you get the same result. I've taken to folding them in half and hanging them over the hanger from the waist, so the bodice hangs down on one side, and the skirts on the other. (Otherwise you get straps that are too long!)

Spectacular!  The whole thing is darling (and on my to-do list; I have some charcoal grey wool waiting...), but my favorite part are those pleats in the back. SO CUTE!!

Does it close all the way up to the neck? The sample in TT is open to the waist, and that's my one reservation--if I need a coat, it's going to be b/c my chest is cold! LOL But yours looks like you could close up the revers if it got chilly.

In the meantime: second sleeve set in today.  I have the underlining of the puff sleeve pinned up on the inside - it gives it a little more "poof". I think I like that a little better.

It's the right-arm sleeve that you're referring to, right?  On the mannequin, they almost look the same from the back, but on you, the pouffyness is more flattering.

I like how Kate put it: "NOM!!!"

Ooooooh!  VERY nice, Kate!  I see you've been a busy and productive.  LOVE the black bodice with the lace the way you've arranged it.  Subtly decadent.  Huzzah!!!

WOW, Silverstah - that's just GORGEOUS!  The color combinations are so pretty! I especially love the under puff on the sleeves. The trim is simple, and classy, and the fit is perfect!  Beautifully done!

I see your assistant is standing by to lend a paw if needed.  ;) It's good to have help.

No pictures yet but I wanted to bump the thread up a bit.  I started to make a pair of stays using Simplicity 2621.  After cutting it out, sewing it half way up, and sewing in half the channels, I tried the stays on....  It's WAY too short for me.  I think it's sized for petites!

Rather than attempting the pattern again, I actually found my old stays pattern that I drafted years ago.  It still fits!  :-)  So I'm cutting that out and I'll finally have a new pair of bodies.

'Bella, it might be. I'm pretty short waisted--I always make my bodices too long--and it fit me perfectly out of the package. (I didn't even know that was possible!)
