I love her! I want to recreate one of her dresses from Sweeney Todd but I can't make up my mind as to which one...so it may never happen.

Lady Kathleen, I just love love love that costume and I can't wait to see your recreation!!  It's so Elizabethan and yet a bit fantasy too thrown in which just rocks!  Good luck, I'm sure you'll do a grand job of it!

And I agree, Helena Bonham Carter is AWESOME!!

I want to make one or all three dress from the movie Hocus Pocus. I really like Bette Midler's outfit the most. I'm also trying to make a half bodice with a pointed tab with bells on the end. working on a drawing.

Thank you, Lady Elizabeth. I am looking forward to making this. I bought some heart shaped 12mm rhinestone beads at JoAnn's the other day. I would like larger if I can find them in a 14mm or 18mm.

I watched the two major trailers to 'Alice In Wonderland" and the long overskirt is actually a Gold fabric, with a diamond design and crosses made of hearts.  The forepart is also long. I did make out that there is definitely Cartridge pleating. The inside lining could be the red. Hard to tell. The ensemble does look very Elizabethan in initial design.

Lady Kathleen, are you going to be wearing your RQ gown to the opening of the movie?  (please say yes)

Work continues apace on my Alice themed ensemble.  The tail coat body is all but done, just need to make & add sleeves & some shiny buttons or some such for sparkle.  I sewed on three layers of ruffles into the inside lining of the cancan skirt last night - PITA - and will make some additional ruffle tonight because there just isn't enough - I'm hoping for 6 layers of ruffle, but am thinking fabric & trim are going to poop out at 5 - it's so fluffy already it stands up by itself.  The corselette needs a little work, but is also mostly complete (it's also way to small so I may have to make another one in mid February).  The final thing will be bloomers, but that's a fairly easy project.

Gotta get back to work - happy sewing!

I can't wait to see all of the homemade costumes to come that're inspired by Burton's Alice.  I'm a sucker for all things Alice in Wonderland, Tim Burton, AND Johnny Depp related so when I heard this movie was coming out I think I squee'd.  A lot.  I'm tossing around the idea of making my 2010 Halloween party gothic or steampunk Alice themed.  Can't wait to see your Queen costume, Lady K!

I don't know how many of you know of this site, though I'm fairly sure someone from this board at one time or other pointed it out to me, but she has pics of costumes from MANY movies we're into here at RF.com.  It's a great reference.  Here's the Alice page of pics:

I agree, the whole court of the queen looked very Elizabethan in style (judging from the trailer and movie stills):

Colleen Atwood is a genius. I don't think I've seen a movie she's clothes that hasn't looked smashing. Alice in Wonderland, Sweeney Todd, Memoirs of a Geisha, Chicago, Sleepy Hollow, Little Women, Edward Scissorhands... She knows the periods she's working with so well, but it always look original as well. A wonderful mixture of knowledge and creativity. I often find movie designers to possess just one of these qualities, but she's got it all. Seriously, she rocks!

ArielCallista

Colleen Atwood rocks! Her designs have been a pretty big factor in me deciding that i want to go into costume design...I would love to be like her protege or something...Plus she works with Tim Burton alot and I've always wanted to work with him!

I will try my best, Taffy. I have several non-costume related custom sewing jobs slated for this month, one of which is a Christening Gown for a client. As well as working on commissions and Alterations as they come in.

Lady K your going to Rock in that outfit. I can't wait for the movie to come out.

I was in Ft. Lauderdale for Halloween this past year and the theme was "Down the Rabbit Hole" There was only one Hatter dressed like Johnny Depp.

Here is a group that dressed as the Queen of Hearts, not Burtons version, Her court, Alice, Hatter, Rabbit.

They were spread out so I had to take two pics.  ::)

*doing her best Elvis* Thank you - thank you very much.

I continued the inside ruffling last night.  I got 6 (squee!) layers lightly overlapping.  The final layer needs to be sewed & then I will top off only the top layer w/some blue & brown striped ribbon.  Probably not tonight.  Last night was heartburn city & I only slept a couple of hours.  This weekend I need to press the ruffles (again), attach the outer layer, placket and see what I'm going to do about the hem, which is going to be a major pain; basically everything but the waistband.  I've got the feeling this is going to be an all weekend project.  It is HEAVY and my respect for the old cancaneuses has jumped 1000%.

Has anyone got any ideas on how to reinforce the waistband to help it support the skirt?
