Oh Lady Elizabeth that is a gorgeous wedding dress.. how stunning with the fabric choices!  Makes me want a twin sister to sew for!

And Cilean, I love watching the progress on the Spanish dress!  Pearled trim is my favorite and your use of the freshwater pearls is the perfect accent. Beautiful!

LadyElizabeth

Cilean, love the fresh water pearls.  I think real pearling on anything is the best!!

And thanks everyone for the compliments.  It's been a grand adventure indeed!  It's the 4th wedding dress I've made and I think it turned out exactly as she wanted it, which is all that really matters, haha!  Now I'm working on my victorian ball gown for the wedding... I'll take some pics soon and post them!

OK so I am forcing myself to just charge through this corset project.  I figure I can't get onto making the pretty, fun stuff till I get the underwear done.  Kudos to all you who have taken up this task and still return for more.  I decided that watching the Olympics was just as important as how good my undies looked so I moved the sewing basket into the living room and figured I could do the binding by hand while I pretended I was a champion speed skater.     I think every single corner is done differently and each puckers in an original way!  By the time I get to the left half of the unit I may have this down pat!

Amy, I just have two words: Orange!! Huzzah!!!

amy

Oh yes, ORANGE! and the green stripes are what guarantees I will never try to wear it on the outside!  But come to think of it... My daughter and I will both be in orange and burnt orange this year!

Did you make it front and back lacing? How did that go?

amy

Yes, this is the butterick historical pattern with both front and back lacing.  I figured that is the most forgiving for those of us whos weight can fluctuate over 15 pounds per season.  And I chose one with the incorporated tabs to help with the cutting feeling at the waistline.   Cross you fingers when I lace it up!

Yep that's it.   It was the pattern I already had which would give me the closest to what I wanted with the most comfort.

Has anyone else had experience with it??

Well I don't have pics yet, but I am working on pirate garb...my first pirate outfit. WEEEEEE  It's inspired by Elizabeth Swan in the 3rd POTC.  I don't know why but asian pirate thing was sounding super fun.  I'll be wearing it this weekend (hopefully) and I'll post pics soon!

So my sister decided she didn't like the black fabric at all, it just doesn't really match.  So I'm going to have to remove all of it and put a plain gold satin fabric in it's place.  She saw my beautiful finished skirt and just decided hers wasn't as pretty....  It's probably true though, my new outfit is awesome!  I took some pics, so I'll post them as soon as I download them.  I guess that's one of the extra talents any seamstress has to pick up, the ability to undo and redo things!

Working on a pirate coat for the boyfriend. I'm perfectly capable of whipping off things for myself, but when I'm making something for him I tend to get fussy.

Everything's been going very well on construction, but I always get a little stuck when it comes to trim. I'm a Tudor girl! I like clean lines and good fit. I'm not USED to trims! I tend to either waaaaaaaay over do it, or leave it off entirely.

I'm going to have the same trim down both sides. With the braid doubled around like that, the ends are actually caught in the seam between the facing and the front, rather than just being tucked under itself as was instructed in the pattern. I'm not sure about the buttons. They just sit at the ends of the fake buttonholes. Is it too much? Not enough? The coat doesn't actually close in the front, so the buttons won't be functional.

Any suggestions?

Is that the simplicity pattern that you are using?

I made one that was and this is how it turned out...  I didnt do a lot of the trim stuff like they said, only because I thought it was a bit much.  But I have seen people do it and it turned out wonderfully.

May the stars always shine upon you and yours.

No, it looks perfect.  The style SHOULD be rather OTT, after all.  Remember when I made these?

And how about this one?

The three kids ones are the Simplicity pattern, the red one is the JP Ryan Military Coat (a MUCH better pattern, in my opinion: the Simplcity one works, but the JP Ryan one is historically accurate and the drafting is better.  Instructions are much better too!).

I love your silver trim: dead cool, that is!
