Genievea, that's exactly the opposite of what happened to me! I'd been doing embroidery all my life, but my hand-sewing was *terrible!* After hand-hemming an Irish gown, though, I really got into it, and now I love it.

Lady Kathleen of Olmsted

When I started sewing at aged 9, it was learning how to do Embroidery and other hand stitching that led to making Barbie Doll clothes for my Barbie. That led to sewing with a machine at 12.

Every now and then, I do a little embroidery here and there to retest what skills I have left.

The 8mm White glass pearls from Fire Mountain arrived today. The bottom flase sleeves are finished. Now on to the Kirtle. Progress photos, soon. Along with the Farthingale.

The Chemise and Fafthingale for Lady DeLaney.

Using the new Margo Anderson pattern. The Chemise is made from an embroidered Cotton Voile with decorative stitching and lace.

The Farthingale is drawn onto folded twice over Cotton Drapery lining that gives 6 pieces. There is an opening in the back for the drawstring. Four channels 10" apart. I like to sew over the channels, lace. That gives the farthingale a feminine touch. It was a bit of a struggle to get the hoop steel not to twist and turn as I was feeding it through.

The Under Kirtle. Again using the Margo Anderson Tudor pattern. The Kirtle will lace on the sides. I used the Gold Diamond contrast fabric for the forepart and facing. One layer of Cotton Canvas Duck over the broadcloth and lined at the Bodice.

I have the kirtle pinned in places because my dress form is not long enough in the torso. The forepart is pearled in 6mm pearls.

The kirtle closeup showing the buttons, interlaced with 8mm pearls on the facing. Each button is placed 1 1/2" apart. Jewelry wire holds the pearls in place.

False Undersleeve detail. I have yet to sew in the ribbons that will attach to short sleeves that will go onto the Kirtle.

The Main gown is going to be made froma  Forest Green Jacquard with a swirly design on it that will shimmer in the sunlight. Trimmed in a delicate needle lace on the Bodice part and down the front part of the overskirt.

That is coming together wonderfully!  I really like the idea of putting the lace over the hoops, that is a very nice touch.  Looking forward to seeing the finished pics.  :)

Oh it is just lovely Lady Kathleen.   The detail is stunning.  Lady D will be a vision!

Different time period, but this is the latest historic creation for Vicky:

It still needs the waistband finishing and the final length fixing on the skirt, and the bodice sleeves length fixing.  We also need to decide on a closure for the front.  Hooks or buttons?  Dunno yet...  And also do we want to add a stand collar?  Dunno.  She'll be here for a fitting soon, so we shall see.

Ooo I think a standing collar and buttons would look amazing on that.
