"If the Irish can do it so can we!"
That's how my old Scottish group tried to promote some of our St. "Andy's" Day events:

I've heard of the Darien Scheme before, but never got around to looking into it until now.

Just posted this month's issue. It was something I'ld be interested in being disproved on.
Were Highlanders wearing knee length tartan "coats" with buttons in the late 16th early 17th century? I've have not seen evidence of it.

Out of curiosity I Emailed the author of the "Oxford History of Board Games", and "Oxford Guide to Card Games" what he thought of the opinion that the Lewis Chessmen are not Chess pieces.

Been struggling for potential topics lately, but I this month's look at the historical Macbeth is better than my recent issues (even though the upload process converted all my quotation marks to question marks -humph)

Since I already do a monthly Celtic history newsletter, I figured I might as well turn some of what I find into a blog of Celtic history and archeology in the news: https://celtichist.wordpress.com/

My latest Celtic History Newsletter might be a bit light on the Celtic end, but great for lovers of exotic adventure stories http://lists.topica.com/lists/celtic_history/read/message.html?mid=1722352454&sort=d&start=51

Had fun this month looking into some of the (questionable) legends about the origins of the events in the Highland games

I also had several positive comments on last month's issue describing a DNA study which seemed to show that the majority of people in the British Isles are actually descended from people who came from the Iberian Peninsula.

Just posted on an Irish regiment that served under Napoleon that I had never heard of before. The original purpose for the Legion was to use them for a French invasion of Ireland.

Trying to join the podcasting game...

I've been doing the Celtic History Newsletter since (OMG) 2006, so I thought I would try to recycle some of the articles I've written on Celtic-related topics into a monthly podcast. I'm going to try to include a tune from local bands as well.

http://historicgames.com/celtcast/

It will take a little while before this podcast appears in the iTunes store, but if you click on the "file" menu in iTunes and drag down to open the option "Subscribe to Podcast" enter: http://historicgames.com/celtcast/?feed=rss2 and you can subscribe without going through the iTunes store.

Performing some necromancy on a long dead thread. I still put out this newsletter. It's now also appearing on this blog and we're going to start reprinting the older articles that only went out via the E-list
