I was a MBTI trainer in my former mundane life....this is an excellent tool for working with others, families, your love, life.  Many folks are surprised to see their results but the descriptors can be tricky to understand.  For example....if you have a "judging" (J) preference it does not mean that you "judge" others, rather it suggests that your preferences are more towards organization and planning.  On the other end of that scale is "perceiving" (P)...this suggests that you tend more towards spontaneity and flexibility.  Also, just because you have an introverted (I) preference does not mean that you don't enjoy people.  This dimension speaks more to how you get energized...smaller groups, introspection (I) or large groups, talking things through with an external focus (E).

The other part of the MBTI philosophy is that these preferences are on a continuum (thus the slight/moderate/strong) and we tend to gravitate more towards the midline as we experience more of life (get older).  One preference is no better than another and in fact, we need all preferences to function optimally.  While it is often easiest to "get along" with people who share our preferences we often seek out those who's preferences are different because the diversity is so valuable.  We also have the ability "flex" our style when the situation requires it to be so (such as organizing your garb and faire dates when the rest of your house is a delicious mess) or during times of stress.....

Sorry for the lecture....I love this stuff.  Renmail me if you'd like to know or discuss more about your preferences....

Great Explanation Femme Falchion!

I've taken the MBTI multiple times, the last time was a little over 5 years ago.  Two of us in the class just freaked out the instructor, we came to the conclusion that we were what he called "Chameleons", adapting ourselves to whatever was around us.  Um... duh, both Diane and I had Theatre degrees.

Lady Dayna....

there also is the notion of "best fit type".  Some folks can take the assessment but answer questions in a way they believe to be more socially desireable...unconsciously...or else they are so close to the midline on all the dimensions that just the thought of being classified into a "type" is offensive.  In these cases, the types kinda fall down...it certainly isn't for everyone.   :)
