HEY!  I missed the starting of this thread!! Where have I been??? (Oh, yeah, avoiding the threads out of jealousy cause we can't be there every weekend.... anyway...)  I have the rum cakes in the works (one whole one "just" for Teach... but we can make his share... maybe).  Last year we brought several pies.  But it looks like there might already be several of those coming.  So I'm thinking Corny Corn Bread?  It's kind of like a corn pudding.  Very buttery.  Yeah.  What else?  Have I seen any turkeys yet? (I mean, besides YOU GUYS?)
Hehe... i knew someone out there would care enough to bring me a rum cake... sigh
Now... can someone figure out a tequila cake for the Lovely Lady Trinn?

*rum cakes... nature's perfect food*

Soooooooo.... I do not need to worry about baking and bringing a rum cake then??

I had to find a secondary supplier since Ike made you incommunicado

I threw most of the cakes away I made last year.  :'( I thought nobody liked them.  ???
It was like a cake and a half that went uneaten. If I make one to bring it will be one, but I think I may be bringing rum balls as well.... ya know, since it will be the holiday season and all...  ;)

Hello! I am arriving Thursday and would really love to join everyone. I would be happy to bring victuals, but I am wondering if there is anything specific, a main dish, that is needed? (I make candies. ;D )

Oh, yes! Rumballs! I had some in Chaos camp this past weekend that were the yummiest balls my tongue has ever tasted!   :P

I have 2 camp chairs I can bring, and I have a fold-up camp table that's about 3 1/2 or 4 feet long. Are we doing tiki torches?  I have about a dozen that I've collected over the years yet never used, plus fluid.

I'll probably be there around noonish? And will possibly bring various breads in a bread basket. I'll keep ye posted.

K. I looked once again and am noticing the total lack of the whole turkey thing.  SO -- we'll bring a large turkey.  We'll have to cook it Wednesday night...  HOw do you keep such a thing appropriately warm for that long without drying it out?

Large Styrofoam cooler and aluminum foil? That's all I can think of unless you had one of those plug in type coolers with the warm/ or cool setting.....

Blue, I think O'Riley and I are going to be out there for the T-Day feast. We are going to bring a home made Mac'n'Cheese casserole that I have had on every holiday. My mother own recipe.

Not sure about the camping thing that night though... Don't really know how that is happening.

All I know is that my 21st birthday is the Day before Thanksgiving and I want to come have dinner with everyone out there.

*Add* Oh, could it also be like, T-Day Dinner/Cassidy's 21st Birthday party?! LOL :P :D ;)

I know a few of Brigadoon and maybe some Valhalla peeps are going to do another T-day at camp. We had such a good time last year!! This time, I hope it wont be so rainy that I can actually get out and walk to other camps....and say hello....and nibble on some tasty dishes as I walk  ;D

Not sure yet what I am going to bring....Andy keeps hinting at fried green tomatoes...I dont even know if I can get those that time of year...

Maybe I'll just bring a pumpkin cheesecake....oh YUM!

Trust me... they were liked
The number of rumcakes that I didn't like is very small
Yours is high on the list of yum though
unfortunately there was a LOT of food...... enormous amounts
Both before going (lunch with family) and then out there
I tried my best...
They really are yummy though... perhaps this year I will just skip dinner and have dessert instead

Awww.... me thinks Teach is trying to butter up me rum.... LOL

Alright, alright... I'll be bringing a rum cake, but it will be made with my new found love this time, not Tortuga rum but Railean, micro distilled right here on the Texas Gulf Coast in the tiny fishing village of San Leon. It beats ANY rum I have EVER put to my lips, and I will be bringing a spare bottle or two two get a second opinion or two.  ;)

I refuse to mix this rum... it would be sacrilege. It is simply that good!

Basting, injectors...mayhaps food network.com has ideas? I've heard that deep frying makes them stay juicy, but I've never used one. There's lots of dirt and open areas to lessen the fire risk.

Frying the bird is highly effective. I've done it that way quite a few times myself, and it's never been dry. Not to mention it takes only a fifth of the time of roasting!

mpullen normally brings a turkey fryer, and will fry the birds we bring. If he does it again this year, I say let's go for it!!!
