The one we bought last year seems to have developed a problem.
It suddenly wont heat water. The water flows same as always, I can hear the burner fire up but... no hot water
Anyone else have this problem?
If ya did, how'd you fix it?
These things are to pricey to replace after only one or two years, I want to fix the dang thing.

*would even give a bottle of rum to someone to fix it...*

Hmmm... you are sure the pilot is lit?  Our gas heater you can hear "come on" and try to cycle when the pilot isn't lit.  I tried to google relevant words and didn't come up with anything exact.  All else fails, call Lowes, Sears or Home Depot and ask someone for trouble shoot...

Good luck!!!

I am going to try to call customer support sometime this week. Not easy given that their hours are almost perfectly aligned with mine.
I did send an email asking about it, so hopefully I will get some kind of answer

Marga, as far as I can tell the pilot light is lighting but not the rest. I haven't opened the case yet because I want to make sure I know what I am doing first. I am fairly handy at fixing stuff (Lovely Lady Trinn calls me MacGyver on a regular basis) but I have never worked on anything similar to this other than swapping out parts.

*I could build a rum distiller but have no idea how a propane system sets up lol*

Did you install a new gas bottle?

Did you push in the knob as you rotated it to "hot"?

*this may require rum to fix it...*

As you have already probably come to the conclusion. It sounds as if your Heat Exchanger may be fried. By chance, can you even tell if the copper heater coils are getting hot?

I can't without opening it up... but I am guessing it will be coming to that...
sigh...

*I wonder if I can use this thing to pump rum too...*

Tec just jive it a good bash, like you would love to do to some of your students, that should fix it.

If I hit it with that much force, it would be in many very small pieces

Apparently it is a thermostat problem. I can make it work as long as I am careful on where I position the control. It took several tries to get that worked out but at least I have a solution for the moment. I am going to end up taking this thing apart after faire though and replacing the thermostat.

*Threatening it with a bottle of rum didn't even phase it*

I just had to order a new pump/hose assembly. After 4 years of use, the beast would heat water if I poured water through the system.

Figure I needed to do the repairs, as after the first year, I lost the adapter that connected the pump to the Coleman water container and had to drop the pump in a slashed 5 gallon water jug.

Price wasn't bad ($20).

Remember to do the de-liming maintenance each year (pump water with vinegar and then fresh water and then drain).

Since I now have the travel trailer, I'll probably put up the complete system (water heater, shower enclosure, and shower stand) for sale at best offer unless my Son wants it for his camping. See me if you want to make an offer.

I have it fixed... i think
I fiddled with it enough to finally get it running correctly.
I think the humidity got to the sensors, all dried out now and heating away

*didn't even have to use the rum on it*
