I'm not a metallurgist, but it was my understanding that old brass alloys could have lead.  I would be cautious about drinking from this tankard without having the metal tested for lead.

We were previously warned of that by the museum curator. The interior of the tankard has been coated with a layer of natural beeswax as a sealant. He only drinks from it on special occasions during the faire season.
