At Louisiana Renaissance Festival our cast demonstrators are members of the Renaissance Living History Center, a non profit organization that is sponsered by our festival. We also work outside of LRF during the year at local schools and public events.

We offer training to volunteers depending on the skills of our current membership. Many of our demonstrators have learned the basics of a craft and done independent research to advance the knowledge base.

We have a working relationship with the LSU Rural Life Museum in Baton Rouge. They portray American colonial life. The crafts are mostly the same with some adjustments made for differing raw materials availabe in America and Europe.

LSU Rural Life Museum is open to the public on most days. They have a few reenactment days when the village comes to life with craft demonstrations. They have a wonderful training program for youths, but I'm sure they have something for adults as well.

You should also look into your local SCA group. Even if they aren't focused on crafting they should know where resources are.

It sounds a bit nuts, but I actually started spinning because of the craft festival at Silver Dollar City (right in your area-ish). ;)

The ex-inlaws used to buy everybody season passes every year, and I went up by myself to meet with a group of people. They ended up not being able to come, but since the hotel room was already paid for, I went anyway. The fall craft festival was going on, so I dropped in, and right inside the door was a sheep-to-shawl demonstration. I sat there and watched the ladies working the exhibit for two days straight, ended up getting a few business cards, and it snowballed from there.

If you would like to send me a PM with information on where -exactly- you're at instead of just a general area, I might be able to pass some information on to you that you might find useful.
I've been turned into a cow. May I be excused?
