???  At Highland weekend a few folks, including Mrs. Zardoz, at the Sea Devil were drinking a red colored drink called a "Sweet B*tch"  Anyone know the recipe for this???  I was told it was 1/2 Pear Cider and Strawberry Lambic.

Pear cider and Peach Lambic... half and half
The Lovely Lady TRinn discovered that drink the year before... took us forever to find out how it was made lol

*I was hoping there was rum in it... but I can't win them all*

Good luck!
I cant remember now if it was the lambic or the cider, but one of the two was VERY hard to find when we first started looking for it. We eventually found it at specs but since have found it randomly at different stores.
Its a Quest!

*rum is so much easier to find... just gotta look in the garage*

This drink sounds really good.  I think I might have to try it this weekend.

You might also be able to find the ingredients at Cost Plus/World Market. I got introduced to SB this year myself- light and tasty!

I've only been able to find pear cider at Specs.  I don't know about the other ingredient.

I've found lambic at Spec's, but I've only looked for it at the one downtown.  They have it near the beer (not in the cooler).

We have actually stumbled upon both at HEB
You just have to keep your eyes open
And shop in the beer section... a lot lol

*I tried looking for it in the rum section... but never found it there*

I'm positive it's not at my local HEB.  We have an old small-town store, not a big fancy one.  I don't get a big selection, but it's cheaper than the big fancy one down the road!!

What is lambic???  I've never heard of it!

Lambic is a Belgian beer style brewed with local wild yeasts and aged hops. The aged hops flavor is much softer than from fresh buds. It's sometimes fermented in a secondary stage with fruit, also. The kriek variety is a tart cherry flavor, framboise is raspberry, and peche is peach. There are other varieties too, probably non-traditional.

Milord's a home brewer, experimenting with lambics at the moment. Lucky me :D. *hic*

I found everything at the Specs on Westhimer near Kirkwood  :)

Damn all of you and your easy access to Spec's! And damn the owners of Spec's for refusing to franchise outside of Houston! Alcohol in Dallas is more expensive, and there isn't a single store that even begins to compare to Spec's for price and selection.

Grrr. Now I'll need to make an excuse to run to Spec's on Saturday when I'm in H-town for my family Christmas party.

Yeah, my mom, who doesn't drink or eat organic, has both a Spec's and a Whole Foods within 3 miles of her house. Me... I have to drive 20 miles to the nearest Whole Foods, and 230 miles to the nearest Spec's.

Double grrr.

Spec's is franchised outside of Houston
There is one in San Marcos and one in Beaumont at least
Also several in Austin etc etc
here is the list of locations... Maybe one is closer than Houston

*Spend enough time searching for specific rums... and you track down ALL the Spec's lol*

If you really want an experience, go to the Spec's Warehouse in Houston.  I do believe they have every type of booze that is legal to sell.  And their deli is out of this world.  I once counted and they had over 28 different types of black olives.  It would be easy to spend the day there and have lunch while you wander the aisles of bottles.

Bring lot's of money. A quick restocking run to the wharehouse the other day cost me $202.00, and I carried it all out in two boxes.

It's WAY too easy to spend money there.  I've left there $70 poorer and said, "what did I buy??"

LadyShadow

Thanks for the heads up.  I think I'll wait until after Christmas for the day trip then.

Of course the Sweet Bitches that were served that night seemed very popular.

Tipsy Gypsy

I did the happy dance when they built a Spec's in College Station. All the local package stores that only sell the same ol' standard stock cringed... My only disappointment was that Spec's didn't include a deli.

My hubby, when he was doing commercial real estate, called them about opening a location in Dallas. The owner said he'd love to - the profit margin in Dallas is much higher than in Houston, but he didn't want his daughter and grandkids moving to Dallas. A family member opens each store, you see. So, yeah, no Spec's for the Big D. (And Dallas folks think the only reason to go to Houston is MD Anderson. meh)

I would much much rather have to make the trip from Dallas to Houston to go to Specs instead of MD Anderson!    :o

I have never been to Spec's but I'm guessing Goody Goody Liquor stores might be kind of the same. They have a number of locations here in Dallas.  http://www.goodygoody.com/default.aspx

Clarendon, you said it. You've never been to Spec's.
