Hello All,
Myself & a friend are working on a gown inspired by crossed front gown shown in Everafter, (the one Danielle is wearing when she rescues Maurice) for her 12th night garb. we are using Period Patterns 41 as a base & so far everything is going along swimmingly.
Chocolate brown satin Piped in Burgandy lip cord, & matching burgandy trim, under skirt & stomacher is a toffee gold *YUM*

I re read the Instructions last night on how they want me to attach both skirts & it still doesnt make sense.

Has anybody else done a gown like this? any tips tricks or words of wisdome on puzzling this out?

I have sewn a Simplicity pattern that was similar to that dress.  And you had to attach the overdress to the bodice and then attach the under dress and sew it all as one.  It was a bit tricky.  But it took a couple of tries of just pinning and repinning before I got both skirts to line up and match how they needed to be.  And then I ended up having to hand sew a few spots that ended up not working out well with machine sewing them.

You can go to my renspace and see the dress.  Go to Ladyshadow.renspace.com   click on photos and then click on My Sewing Projects.

It was tricky getting the skirts on and I cant remember it exactly off the top of my head.  Maybe tonight if you still need help I will take another look at my dress (havent touched it since TRF ended, sorry) and remember how I did it.

I haven't made anything like that, and have no experience with that pattern, but I have a thought.

If you're having trouble pinning 2 skirts to the bodice, maybe you could baste the skirts to each other and then treat them as one skirt for purposes of attaching them.

Part of the problem Is I didnt realize that they were doing this funky side ribbon thing for the opening.

My thought was to have a small split in the front pannel of the underskirt wich would close up when she fastens the cross over bit of the bodice....but I didnt want thre to be an obvouis bit of stitching smack dab in the front...Dunno will have to fiddle with it.

The gown is made up from 1460's to 1480's fashion from the Italian City States, so I have some information about how to use #41

Here are some research pages on the Gamurra and Giornea:

Could you add a strip of fabric to make it long enough? Maybe cover the seam with a nice ribbon of some sort?

LadyShadow

Oops.  Hopefully you can figure out a way to fix it.  I like the idea that Operafantomet had.

That is Precisely what I am going to do, thank goodness I did not cut out the matchign bag so I should have just enough....& I can make the bag out of fabric that matches the trim instead...Whew!

Cant wait to see how it turns out.  Good luck with the bag.  And please post pics when done :)
