Get yourself a bottle of Zinc. Chewable is best(I've found it with vitamin C recently, which we all know is good), and best absorbed. Zinc will kill any virus. I'd say double up on the dose for a day or two, and drop to the recommended after that. If you've ever heard of Zicam, it is the same stuff(although putting that swab up the nose is unpleasant). I've always gone for Zinc when I felt something coming on, and haven't suffered the flu in years.

Zicam and zinc will only shorten the systems of colds IF you start them as soon as you start to feel the cold starting. The best thing is rest, lots of fluids, Nyquil so you can sleep. If you've had this for a week or so you should see a doctor to make sure it isn't something else as there are some nasty viruses going around.

Rest and lots and lots  of fluid  for one ! Zinc, vitamin C  and  a good multi  vitamin.

Warm steam  to  help open your head if you are plugged up.

Since  i was pumped full of antibiotics intraveinously  back in the early 90's when i had a bout with Lyme disease, my body can not tolerate certain antibiotics and meds , so I have spent alot of time researching natural supplements, vitamins  and  herbs. There are alot out there on the market that i would not take because they have not been proven to be  safe to use but here are the ones that i know are safe and that do work.

Liquid silver------
it has antibodies in it, and really helps your immune  system fight off colds, flu, etc.  Have you ever heard the saying " born with a silver spoon in their  mouth ."  It is because years ago the babies who were  fed with a silver spoon, were found  to be healthier babies. They did research and found out that there is something in sliver that helps  boost  your immune  system. My 80 year old mother n law introduced me to liquid silver and i use it every winter when i feel i am catching a cold  or  he  flu.  The stuff really helps to shorten the duration of a cold or  the flu.
and you can even take it on a daily basis, when you  are feeling well, just to  give your immune  system a added boost. You can find it in any health food store. It tastes like  water.

Garlic capsules or tablets - full of antibodies.  natures natural antibiotic.  Great for colds and the flu.

Olive leaf capsules- a natural antibiotic. Great for the immune  system.

I agree with Celtic Lady. If you have had this for over a week, you should  consider seeing a doctor, especially if you have been running a fever for  that long.

Also try drinking Gatorade, or some type of sport drink to build your electrolites  back up, and keep you from getting too dehydrated, and warm chicken broth.

My brother just got over that Bad dose of flu thats going around, he had it for well over two weeks and his wife had it for almost a month. They had to get emoxacilen to kick it.

Here's a link about silver water. I completely forgot about that. My brother in law told me about it some time ago.

However, my brother, just retired from the Navy, told me about a guy he worked with on submarines. Those multivitamin tablets don't dissolve in the gut like you think. This guy had to clear out the systems regularly because those tablets clogged the works. Centrum was the most common. Most multivitamin tablets are a waste of money.

I do want to add, just as a precaution, that taking colloidal silver on a daily basis CAN be dangerous if you aren't careful. Silver works by interrupting the single-cell organisms ability to "breathe". And it is NOT picky about which cells it interrupts, so if you take it regularly, make sure you supplement your "good bacteria" like acidopholous (yogurt, etc) or else you can end up with other nasty symptoms like yeast flare ups in weird places (ever seen a grown man get thrush? it's almost impossible NOT to laugh when your dad tells you he has a yeast infection).

In other news- there have been some REALLY ugly bugs going around- the whole family here was swept with illness last week and are just now getting over the worst of it. Remember to drink WATER!! Being dehydrated (at least with this bug) turned the sinus pressure into an almost migraine-like level of pain. If sinus seemed blocked up and you feel like your head is gonna explode and even hot showers only help for a few minutes, try eating something a little spicy (I made rice with meatballs and gravy that had a good bit of spice- and the sickies left out the meatballs and just ate the rice and gravy, and it helped a LOT).

And sleep!! Your body can fight a lot harder when it's not trying to accomplish multiple objectives.

I'd recommend eccinacea.  Also, chicken soup (assuming you eat meat).  "Get better juice" is pretty good too.  1/2 OJ, 1/2 sprite (or other lemon-lime soda), and one packet of Emergen-C.

Zinc helps a lot, but like has been said, only if you take it when you start to get sick.  I like the cold-eez brand.  You can get it in lozenges or bubblegum!  One thing to note, it says on the package that you shouldn't take it within 1/2 hour of vitamin C.  I guess they cancel each other out if you take them too close together?

Firstly, *Hugs* flu sucks, especially when it lingers..

standard protocal for virus-like infections.
Sleep, Hydrate and replenish as you may.

Can't sleep; knock yourself out with whatever your fancy is
(Do not believe your hallucinations, a hammer doesn't work...well, it will.. only once.)

Can't eat; get sustinance through liquid form
(if you have a wobbly stomach, cut the liquid with water)

Can't breath; humidify and elevate the melon higher than your chest.
(Gravity is your friend)

The rest of it, is don't push yourself too hard.
Even if you feel better, take it easy. Or you'll just wind up sick all over again.

Please take care.  :)

Thanks for adding that. I totally forgot to mention that last night. Yes, with any antibiotic, wheter it be prescription form, or by natural form, you should take  acidopholous, eat yogurt, or take some type of probiotic  to replenish the good bacteria  in your system, so you don't end up with yeast or fungus in your system.

Also  a note about multivitamins..if you do take one...check how much iron, vitamin E, and vitamin A are in them. Too much vitamin A, E, and  iron can be  toxic  to your  system.

Just wanted to point out that your brother and sister-in-law probably had something else going on as amoxicillan (or for that matter any antibiotic) does not affect viruses. Sadly one must let nature take it's course and let the body recover on it's own.

There is a drug now that is called Tamiflu and it reduces the symptms by half.  My hubby caught it on Thursday and was back to work on Tuesday...fever stopped Saturday night.  Great stuff, but is prescription.
