If anyone is in need of a new shirt, smock, cuffs, collars, etc. there is a cotton embroidered fabric at JoAnn Fabrics that looks remarkably like blackwork embroidered fabric. It comes in white with black embroidery and black with white embroidery. It's among the new Spring fabrics and right now 40% off. If you have a coupon even more. In other cities where there are Rennies it has been flying off the shelves. JoAnn's has no idea why. lol I got the last 5 yards at the Indiana JoAnn's. Catherine of Aragon brought blackwork to England and it became all the rage. Cotton is not as cool as linen, but hey, I'm not learning embroidery anytime soon and this stuff looks really good.

OOO!  I'll have to pass this along to my seamstress.

You can see a picture on Margo Anderson's blog, after the post about the dress she sold on ebay.

I bought nearly three yards of this fabric myself, and when I showed it to my costume mistress of my Bristol Guilde and her husband the director, they wanted to try and get some on their way home from our baking day today.

Oh I'm sorry! I didn't know there was anyone around here. There were only 5 yards left when I took 'em.

;) no worries, I have a wide range that I circle when I am in a driving mood. Indiana is 45, minutes from me, & DuBois is 30...Altoona an hour. & On the rare occasion I find State collge...

You do know that you can go into any JoAnn's store and request that they see if any other store has what you want, right?  Saves a lot of driving time.  I know they can ask another store to hold items for you, and it's quite possible that they still have the option of having it sent to a local store for you to pick up.

Blackwork looks really cool...it's just murder on the eyes (and the patience) to do!  I've got a dress in the works, this would be a nice touch.  I picked up a little bit, the cotton it is on is awfully thin, in my opinion, but I'll make it work.

Also go to Thistlebees on the web--also from the Margo list. Outstanding embroidery and you can order whole partlets and chemises, collars and cuffs. I don't know the prices yet. Am waiting to hear from them. They have the embroidery already programmed and do replicas of portrait pieces.

Hmmmm....in that case, Dear, by all means visit every JoAnn's you can find!  In fact, you may have to visit a few of them twice!   ;)
