I LOVE the mountains and beauty of the North West, but the damn cold weather I can't handle. I love fall and I do wish their was more of a change of foliage where I live (Brazoria County), but you don't have to drive far to get to it. Our winters are short enough for you to get your cold weather fix and then by time you know it, it's time for the beach again!
Texas has everything you need! The only two complaints I have are the mosquitoes and the humidity, but let's face it... Us Texans know by now to stock up on bug spray and never hope to do anything fancy with your hair because it won't stay!!  ;D
Oh and let's not forget how awesome it is that we have TRF AND Scarby.

Irish by Ancestry, American by Birth, Texan by the Grace of God.....

You can not match the smell of Brisket, Beef Ribs and Lockhart Sausage on the BBQ, along with friends hanging out on the patio and taking dips in the pool before settling down to Christmas Dinner.

Love it Lairde! and so true.

Year-round faires and rennie gatherings uninterrupted by snowstorms. (except that one time at Scarby I heard about...)

We have lots of sheep, eh? I wondered why we had so many Scotsmen!  ;)

I've lived in Colorado 4 times in the past 16 years. All I could think about was the ocean.  And how much I hated scraping, sliding on, and shoveling the white s***.

The humidity here provides us with a more youthful appearance, too.  ;D

My summer mantra about the humidity is "It keeps away the wrinkles, it keeps away the wrinkles" - trying to put a positive spin on it.

Reading all the posts make me even more homesick than watching the video... believe me... it will not be too much longer and I will be back home....

And just to throw it out there... Texas is the only state flag that can and should be flown at the same height as the American flag.... has to do with all that us being a nation and stuff...

And also... back to the Wool comment... almost all of that comes from the 9 counties that border San Angelo, TX (lived there once upon a time)

And just one other thing.. Texas has just about anything that you could want from a geographic perspective.. We have mountains, rolling hills, beaches, deserts, plains, etc... And yes it does get a little warm in some area, but we have snow here as well... and Windmills... Texas has had Windmills since they were invented.... they are dotted all over the great state, just about every farm has at least 1...

Dr. Pepper was invented in Waco, Texas in 1885.

Texas is the only state to still have a flock of Whooping Cranes. (Aransas Wildlife Refuge)

Texas has more miles of railroad track than any other state.

Texas has eight viticultural regions and grows a larger variety of wine grape species than any other state.

Root stock from Texas grapes was used to restore the prestigious French wine grapes that the phylloxera root louse was destroying.

Whoops!  Not quite right!

Every state has it's pros and cons, that's for sure.  I love Western NY where I grew up, but I love my home here in Texas too.  Though I could live without the allergies which I never had before I came here! *grin*  I do miss the green, and the hills, and the moisture in the air, though.

Either place, I'm home, and that's fine by me!

Brisket.
Dear God, that stuff is awesome.   Blue 6669 brought some on the last invasion to Tampa, and it was just incredible.  I remember it well.....dark, smoky, juicy....and that was just Blue...but I digress.    She unwrapped what I thought was a piece of furniture.   Contained within was a Flintstones sized hunk o' beef that melted in your mouth, with a slow lingering finish.  It fed about a dozen hungry people, and left me wanting more.

I've seen the process for brisket BBQ.   It takes about a day, from what I can tell..and I've not even attempted to replicate it.   Texas ROCKS!!!

You can keep chicken fried steak, though..... ;)

Oh yeah...good brisket is an art form!

It's not federal law. That's where snopes comes in.
