Super silly question/need opinions (colors)

Okay so I've got a whole bunch of a gorgeous dark green linen and I want to make a dress out of it. I love green dresses. I also love Campi's portraits of Italian working women, and their dresses, so I want to make one of those in dark green. (You saw that coming.)

My problem is this: What color trim should I go with for the guarding? My instinct was to go with black, but then I remembered why -- Silverstah's is that exact scheme, and I looove hers. I don't want to be a copycat, though, but I just can't think of a better color for the trim on this!

So I come to you wonderful people after a long and boring absence (I was a lurker before, though, anyway) seeking opinions, advice, and any sort of help.

What color would YOU recommend for the guards? Or, if I went with black, what changes could I make so that my dress doesn't look like a copy of Silverstah's?

(I also need color ideas for the sleeves and apron, but I'm not as worried about those since I can change them so easily after the fact if I end up not liking them.)

Thank you so much for any help! <3

Well you could always go with a lovely sunflower yellow,
or a more subdued shade of yellow.

I've always loved green with a deep rust color.  It just seems to set it off so wonderfully.

Well you could certainly add a row of guards to the hemline, and do the bodice guards completly differently.

Here's some pictures to get some ideas. Different choices of colors too.

Something like this perhaps?

a darker green would be pretty or a dark orange would look nice

Thank you so much for the ideas, everyone! I went back and looked again at every portrait I could find and it seems golden yellows were pretty commonly paired with dark greens. I'm going to the store tomorrow or Wednesday, so I'll take a look around for a gold or dark orange (I am such a sucker for orange sometimes). If that fails, I decided that if I used black I'd make two narrow rows of guards on the bodice and hem, instead of one wide one.

I'm hesitant to go with wine because that's the color of the dress I'm making for my mother. Such a pretty color though...

So we'll see what I come home with! Hehe.

Thanks again! <3

I agree about a mustard/golden one, or a burgundy one. Great accent colours, and very period, especially paired with a white chemise. Albeit not working class, you can see something similar here:

I used a similar red/green combination for my Unicorn dress. The green is more moss green, though:
