Booky wooks! link

I got this for my birthday a few weeks ago, it's sitting right next to me on my desk. I love it! I highly recommend it to anyone, no matter their experience in steampunk. I wish it was pocket size so I could carry it with me everywhere when people ask "what exactly is steampunk?" It's great!

I love this book! I picked it up at the late  (sniff, sniff) Borders book store in our area.  I have read it from cover to cover, and showed it to anyone who asks about SP.  Even though my husband dumped coffee on it, (gasp!), it still has a place of honor on our coffee table. It even mentions my favorite SP author, Gail Carriger. Great book.

Saw where Jodi Resler-Gustafson, from Minnesota, posted a photo of some Steampunk Henna Art that she did on the Minnesota Society of Costumers Facebook page.

Wow... that's really nice!!!  It looks like the main part was done with a stencil, though... those circles are just too precise.  Still... awesome!!!

Having technical difficulties so streaming won't happen, but have a mini video cam I'll be wearing to get some candid footage.

Went to Dickens on the Strand in Galveston, Texas Saturday.  They have a Steampunk square which was really cool with vendors and all manner of Steampunk.  Also there were entertainers based on Steampunk.  What was really cool though was that Steampunk was EVERYWHERE!  You would see women with gorgeous gowns with a set of goggles on their head.  Also Saturday night the hosting Airship presented a play (which was alright but I will admit that the wife and I did wander off), then they had the Steampunk Circus with a guy who ate glass and was a human blockhead to name a few (kind of the old freak show), then they had a fire show which was FREAKING AWESOME!!!!  The night finished with the Steampunk Ball which was an outside courtyard dance for the Steampunk community.  It was DJ'd with Steampunk music.  I had heard of Abney Park and Tartanic (which really isn't that Steampunk) I know has been playing Steampunk balls and what not but this music was AMAZING.  I have spent all night tonight researching different bands.  I love Vernian Process for one.  Highly encourage all you Steampunkers to venture into the music as well because it really lends to the look and amazement!

Thank you for the review, Mr. Hyde.  Let me add Professor Elemental as a wonderful musician.

Ug, I lived in Houston for 18 years and the second I moved to Kansas for school, I hear about Dickens. I'm never able to come home for it since I'm there the week before for Thanksgiving break and 2 weeks after it for Christmas. Woe.

But, while I was home for Thanksgiving, I was able to go to TRF twice! We caught Tartanic and they said they had a new steampunk album out. I do agree that the stuff I have heard from them is not exactly my idea of steampunk, but I do love me some bagpipes! It may be a case of trying to catch on to the bandwagon, but...I don't know, I can think of worse music to be at a steampunk ball :)

Glad Dickens was fun! I saw Airship Isabella at a con here in Wichita a few weeks ago and then saw them again at TRF one weekend, small world. I know they were at Dickens.

Well, has everybody seen the Youtube video "Just glue some Gears on it and Call it Steampunk"? If you haven't caught it yet, check it out! (just search for glue some gears on it) It's funny, and has a tune that will stick in your head!
