So much steaminess, its so awesome! Can't wait to show the photos of new things, I have two new tops, an old lacey shirt that I didn't realize would look so awesome and then found a shirt on clearance at Target that looks awesome with my new corset.

Keep the steaminess up, sPunkers! Great things are to come from our group!!  :)
Still Meggers, just a little more grown up now. :)

This is what I mean by a duster:
http://www.richemporium.com/modeltduster.html

You can find a pattern by googling "model t duster".  These are such elegant coats and an icon of when driving a car was an adventure.

Looks basically like what I had in mind, but I really dont want it double-breasted.  I plan to leave it open, so the rest of the costume will show, and I feel there will just be too much material flapping about if it's double-breasted.  (I have an awesome double-breasted "military" style jacket, and it's a pain to leave it open because there's so much fabric.)  I want the top a little more fitted too, but that's easy enough to change.

I will definately search for some patterns, because there don't seem to be any in the pattern books they have at the fabric store.  And I think it would be much easier to start from the duster patten and mod it than to start with a captain's coat pattern.

Right now, I'm thinking I'm going to go with a skirt for the bottom.  Just above knee length, but kinda styled like this:

Might be a little while before I have any pictures to share, but when I do I will post them.

Thanks so much for the help so far, everyone!

I'm so excited! :happydance: I just got a call about my hat/googles/feather hatpin combo and I can't wait to get it and wear it!
I'm still working on my bustled overskirt. I've finally figured out how to get the look that I want without buying a $20 pattern. Now I just have to sit down in fron of the sewing machine and get it done! (Oh, yeah. I took my daughter to get her hair cut & colored to day and while I was there I got a blue streak. ;) )

My corset arrived... had it's first lacing down.  I need to lose a pound or two (or fifty) to make it fit better, but I'm working on it.  Got stuff to make my hat... and hubby said I could go fabric shopping and buy 5 yards of the $10/yard stuff I want for the overskirt!!!

\  And a trench coat, fitted on top and flaring into skirt/tails in the back?

How about this:  http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php

Sealion, your combo sounds dreamy.  Will I be seeing it at WindyCon?

Captmarga, a new corset is always a good reason for a nice tot of the adult beverage of you choice.  A new overskirt calls for two.

I'm finished with the construction of my walking skirt.  It just needs some additional trim & a little bling.  I am absolutely crazy in love with this pattern and foresee using many times in the future.

Ok guys these ideas sound great, can't wait to see piccys.

Oh if you are on livejournal there is a group called steamfashion where you can probably get loads of ideas from. It seems pretty active so you might want to check it out, and yes I'm on it.

Gaaaahh... soooo many forums, so very little time!!!  Between R/F, myspace and facebook, I don't see how anyone ever gets any work done... not to mention eBay, craigslist and freecycle for all those nifty little gadgets and crafty accessories you just can't find elsewhere!  I sometimes feel like I never leave my computer...  ::)

That's exactly the sort of thing I had in mind.  :D

Woot new corsets and goggles.  Those are always fun!

Capt, If you're buying the fabric for your skirt at Jo-Ann's, and you don't already have a coupon, you might want to think about buying their little "fashion" magazine.  It has coupons on the back of it, and at $10/yard, the savings from the coupon will more than make up for the price of the mag.  (unless they've upped the price of it since the last time I did that). :)

I bought one of their fashion mags last weekend to help cover the cost of my walking skirt.  I ended up saving 25%, on top of the fact that the fabric was already on sale - it's a good deal.

I completely fell in love w/Agatha's lab coat - including the fact that the sleeves are singed off.

New corset? Sounds great! It sounds like the outfit is coming together.

Speaking of goggles I got mine in the mail earlier today.

Before

And you may ask why a before picture, the answer is this.

After

Under that icky black paint is a lovely set of brass goggles from the 20's. Happy happy joy joy. I was thrilled when I got them and saw the paint chipping and even more thrilled when I saw what the color was underneath. Now just to get rid of the rest of the paint and clean them up.

Genuine brass goggles are indeed a reason for happy joy.  Congrats on the find.
