All these ideas are really interesting - I know relatively little about Steampunk (just what I read here, really) but the clothes sound positively divine...

Spats are also a simple and effective accessory.

I'm such a dork.... I've always wanted spats. Since watching Some Like it Hot the very first time.
Thank you for the pattern Taffy.

oh and here are some sketches of things i hope to pull off and pull off i mean make.

Ooooh! I love that hat!
My garb it still in the "thoughts rolling around in my head" stage. lol (Gotta get the Pennsic stuff done first.) I'm trying to decide how someone raised as a proper Victorian society lady who became an explorer/time traveller would dress.

I think I see a pith helmet in your future... and perhaps a bit of khaki.  LOL  Maybe a split walking skirt, button up shirtwaist, aviator's scarf, tinted goggles, kid gloves, no nonsense parasol, walking boots, small leather bound atlas/journal, small brass compass/time travel device with carry case, canteen (flask ;D ), spyglass, etc... any or all of these things spring to mind when I think of the character you described.  I picture a youngish Katherine Hepburn type, very inquisitive, full of energy...

What do you mean, enabler?  Who, me?!?  LOL

Oh, and Tygr... one can never have too much Garb!!!  You just need more closets!!!  See, problem solved!

Duckie, that's one of my fav movies!  Especially the train scenes...  LOL  Nice sketches, btw!

Hmm....I like the Katherine Hepburn angle. I'll have to watch African Queen again! LOL
The problem I am having is that I have been collecting black accessories (incuding a kicka$$ capelet I found at a local antiques store for 4 bucks!) even though I know khaki would be more appropriate for the character in my head.

Ahhhh... perhaps you could be more of an Adventuress/Accidental Time Traveler... just in the right place at the right time, I guess... something like that?  Hepburn was always stumbling into serendipitous situations, if I recall!

(Oh, serendipitous is my new "word crush" of the month...  LOL)

SCOOOOORE at the Goodwill - caramel colored granny boots, black pumps to complete my Snape garb - Queen Bonnie & I are leading a Harry Potter invasion at TRF, also on All Hallow's weekend  - and a black bowler hat, maybe to be worn w/a snood? or my hair pulled back w/a ribbon?  *happy dance*

Apparently i'm in a designing mood. Wish I had the money and skill to put these all into reality. Will probably get one done.

haha finally figured it out. YAY!

You know, I like that we can discuss this here. I mentioned "renpunk" over at Brass Goggles and got my head bit off. I haven't been back there since.

Oh brother, the amazing thing is they lost someone who could've had a lot of helpful information & insights because you dared to extend an idea that was outside the box.  Besides, I thought one of the holy tenets of SP is time travel.

Steampunk is pretty cool, but I would love to see an adaption of Renpunk.

My sweetie has this LED light that you can hook over your ear.  I want to get a couple of extras to see if I can steampunk it up.  Shouldn't be too hard.

I have always been a gadget, mechanical gizmo person. As a kid I bought a small steam engine made in Germany for $30. I checked Ebay and steam engines are pricing out at around $300. I've been tinkering with the idea of tinkering a steam powered bubble machine together. Hmmmmmmm...........................Steampunk Bubbles!

It would be cool if you could get a little puff of steam inside the bubbles.

Wow! What a great idea. I had been thinking in terms of the steam engine powering a fan to blow the bubbles. Using a puff of steam could be easily done with an offset cam on a pressure release valve, plus the heat of the steam would make the bubble rise. The question is will a puff of steam make a bubble or break it before it completely forms? Time to hook up a piece of tubing to my steam kettle. If you hear about a loud explosion in New Castle, Delaware that means it didn't work!  ::)

AAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!  OMG!  Thanks for that mental image... I can totally picture the madboy bubble lab, complete with bubbling beakers, bunsen burners and maybe even a "broken bubble" bin!!!

BW, you are a SteamPunk Madboy to the core!!!  Welcome aboard the SkyShark...  I do believe your bubbles might just make us fly higher than we'd otherwise be able!!!  :D

Thanks a lot.

This thread, my fledgling interest in steampunk, and my own overactive imagination, has given me too many ideas and projects that I want to do.  And I can't do half of them due to time/money/ability/availability of space and weapons of mass construction.  Much fun was had in the 50,00 sq ft Antique shop yesterday (too much stuff, not enough money or space), and WalMart has a nice selection of plastic guns hat would mod up real nice.  Darn you internet and various forums for my many addictions! :)

PS. Does anyone know a good place for hat blank?
