Ren Fest Fight Club
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLjLPPD9X2I&NR=1

"This footage is from the 2008 Renaissance Festival (http://www.ren-fest.com) in Deerfield Beach, Florida at Quiet Waters Park.

This video segment features the fighting from the guys & gals associated with The History of Chivalry, whose future website will be at http://www.thehistoryofchivalry.org.

What was really fun was that the man in charge actually recognized me from my RenFest 2005 video work, which was very cool. Always fun to be spotted as "Hey, that's Alfred from YouTube."

While a RenFest 2008 video will be coming shortly with all of my bad jokes, here is the pure, unedited "Fight Club" footage.

Yup, you can watch these people beat the snot out of each other.

Why was I thinking back to my youth..."Rock'm Sock'm Robots"!   ;D

Always impressed the good knights can even move with that much armor, let alone engage in combat!
"Why a spoon cousin? Why not an axe?"
Because it's dull you twit, it'll hurt more. Now SEW, and keep the stitches small

Al-Nimer

That was AWESOME and most impressive  ;D  It's amazing someone can take an axe blow to the head (or anywhere else) and still be standing.  That battle-strength armor must weigh a ton.  Thanks for sharing!

Yup. that had to be a gasser moving around in the sand with all that armor, let alone fighting 2 - 3 minute bouts.

The last menage et trois was the best fight of the segment!

Once upon a time in a life long ago (read: 2000, 2001) the Adrian Empire (Like the SCA, but use real steel weapons instead of rattan find them at: www.adrianempire.org) did this show (unscripted full armor fighting) for this faire.  I'm not sure how many years they did it after that, unfortunately I had to move to NY for work and lost touch with them.

I was one of the "lucky" fighters who got to go out there and "beat the snot" out of each other.  It's definitely tiring work, nearly 100 degrees, the sand gets EVERYWHERE, and the armor feels even heavier than it is - and it's heavy.  Mine weighs nearly 100 pounds with all the plate, chain, and whatnot.  The helm alone nearly 15 pounds (German great helm).  Heat exhaustion, cuts, bruises, stitches all were common.

We didn't get paid .. in fact we had to pay to camp there (like 5 bucks), but we got in to the faire free so we could go see it when we weren't fighting.

It's the crowds (ok, the girls) though that make it worth it.

I give these guys credit ... it's a lot of work.
