Uhhh... ... I just went back and read some of the comments... would it upset you guys, greatly, to find out my "best bud" was small, furry and chased rats?     I had him since he was a kitten and was with me every day for over a third of my life...

Fraser, I've been closer to some of my critters than to many of my friends. It still hurts to lose one.

I already figured it was a fur friend.    They are just as important!  We have a dog that probably won't be with us much longer.  She suddenly got old really quick.

I know what you mean, Trill... i would say "He's getting old" even though he was already 15-16 years old.  I had hoped he would make it through the holidays, but it was not to be.

We had a cat that was 19 when we had to put her down about 2 years ago.  She was doing pretty good until the last 8 months or so.  Our dog was racing the yard and rolling in the grass at the beginning of summer.  Suddenly she is having more and more difficulty getting up.
