I just can't take the heat of opening weekend. Unless something special is happening we haven't made opening in a long time. Need to look for extra tickets. Got a wedding on an extra weekend we found out recently. AHE, Pirate, Highlands, and Celtic are our favs.

Especially now that it's the last weekend in September...it wasn't TOO bad, but I sure as heck wouldn't have wanted to be out there...

True, opening weekend is historically hot. November is much better for heavy garb.

It wasn't too bad.  And it is a good excuse to drink more beer.

Frazer, made it to your brother's last night. Great seeing them. Stayed up too late talking. Just now coffee for me and they had to work today. Will be here till Sunday.

StudMuffin and I went for opening.  I haven't missed opening in over 25 years.  We had a ball but attendance was down.  Didn't have to wait in a line at the Sea Devil.  Campground was also nice but a bit quiet.  Weather was lovely but a tad warm.

No kidding, a quiet opening weekend in the campground? Too many possibilities as to why the attendance was low. Won't even ponder it.

You have to remember I was with my clan down in 1B and I don't go on walkabout.  So, for me it was quiet.   Sometime I need to go by Call of Booty to see what the fuss is.

Hello all, I am going to try camping out during pirate weekend. I've never camped at the TRF and could use some advice. Reading through some posts I saw that there are places that clans tend to take every year, so I don't want to disturb the peace. Definitely looking to throw back a few and have a good time. So if anyone could get back to me with some advice that's would be great. Also if anyone is looking to hang out with new people, I'm going with a buddy of mine and we are always down to meet new people. Thanks, hope to see yall there!

Well I'm not very reliable for TRF camping advice. I would advise waiting for March and camping at Sherwood. It will be a much better experience.

But, if you must camp at TRF, Don't worry too much about encroaching on clan land. They are usually in camp early and get their areas claimed. There is a thread here https://www.renaissancefestival.com/forums/index.php/topic,26485.0.html which shows a slightly outdated map, but it has the location of some of the clans.

The closer you get to the fire the less sleep you will get and the higher the need to lock up your valuables.

There should also be a camping thread that is full of TRF camping tips. You may have to go back a few pages to find it.

As for joining a clan, practically every clan requires prospective members to spend time with the clan. My advice is to do a walk-about around the camp ground and visit as many clans as you can. Each has it's own qualities and atmosphere. You're sure to find one that you jive with.
