I want to accessorize my festival garb to be more of a Scottish shepherd.  Thankfully, MiRF allows pets, so I am bringing my Sheltie with me to faire.  ;D

So I was wondering if any one had any suggestions of some accessories.  I don't want to be overloaded with too much, but I want people to look at me and on first glance realize that I am a shepherd.

Currently I wear a basic wench style clothes - a blue skirt, green bodice, cream chemise, with a black belt.

Here are the few ideas that I might use, but does anyone have any better ideas or suggestions?
- Shepherds hook/staff
- Arisaid (to keep with the Scottish theme - MacKay since that is my family tartan)
- Plush sheep toy tied to belt

I think the ideas you posted are great!

How about some kind of canteen (not exactly one of those, but something to hold your beverage in)?  If you were out in the field all day, you'd want some water or ale or something to drink.  There is probably a proper name for it (flask?) but I don't know what to call it.

As a woman, you almost certainly would have had a spindle/distaff with you even in the fields.

There is a shepherd character at Scarby, I think he is on cast. He carries a shepherds crook and has a white(ish) knitted cap with little ears on it. To me, he is instantly recognizable as a shepherd. I'm sure there are pics of him from our fine photographers here - I will try to find one later tonight.

Edit: Found pic, courtesy of Valt's Scarby photos. First weekend.

I just thought of something that I have that you may consider.

I don't know how hot it is by your faires, but sometimes by ours, it's cool to cold in the autumn.  I bought yarn in the cream/light beige color that is approximately the color of the sheep's wool.  Then I knitted a shawl.  Just straight knit, on size 13 needles, no pattern or anything.  I use it with my wench or peasant garb.

Ooo, I really like that idea.  I found a book at my library that shows how to hand spin.  That would be fun to have on my person.

I like the idea of a water pouch/canteen.  I usually carry my mug around for drinks, but a water pouch would be great to carry water around for my dog.

Thanks for the ideas!
