Came as a pirate, just to break the noble mold and confused some nobles. Adopted a new hamster Augustes Wilhelm Van Tassel V, The IX Duke of Hamsterdamm. Bought a long black plume for my home made pirate hat. Chatted with many people and met Betty. Got two favors one from the new Captian Jack, the other from Capt Spleen aka Sean Danials. Got rained on at the pirates pub when we went to watch the new Capt Jack perform. Went into the pirate ship and found it leaks. Made a dash to the Dancing bear to await the rain storm. Once the rain ended met up with a friend whom Toki and I game with. Chatted only a short time and had to make a dash to stay dry again only to be freaked out by the very close hit of the lightning nearby. Took a few photos which will get posted soon, chatted more with Betty about my photography to find I have a fan in her. Got my photo taken three times by Nelson Chin and I took his also. Chatted with Nelson a bit. Ate more Naked Cows aka Baron of beef minus onions and peppers. Was confronted by the Sheriff for talking to bushes, I told him I didn't see any bushes and said if you see things not there you must be crazy. He asked if I were calling him crazy and I sad No, just slightly mad. He was not happy with that answer. but hey I was a pirate and not a noble and had to be a smart mouthed a bit. Headed home at a little after 6:30 and took a nice hot shower once home. Very tired  on Sunday but atleast my garb from this weekend is machine washable.

Huzzah to everyone and hope you stayed dry and Sunday and far from lightning

Grateful that I wasn't anywhere near the rain this weekend. (work duties and such) but looking forward to possibility returning to fair next weekend.

Mistress Charlotte

Yes... the lightening strike was a tree next to first aid... so basically right near me...  totally freaked me out and stood in my booth cursing the sky and fretting about whether I should leave my booth or stay... Decided that everything else around me was sooo much taller that I was ok.  A good weekend altogether though.
Cause, "Cake or death?" That's a pretty easy question.
Anyone could answer that.
"Cake or death?"
"Eh, cake please."

always stay with the booth in lightening. at least you are off the ground, and so not grounded and are protected from ground strike (lightening strikes near you and you are zapped through the ground/rainwater.  if the booth were struck, it would arc through the rainwater on the booth and to the ground.. you are still protected, and could then flee the flames that could ensue.   you are however open to side flash, and a fully enclosed structure would be better.... but to flee into the storm for a better structure is a dice roll.  in a lightening storm, the best advise is A. don't be the tallest thing around, or near the tallest thing around B. get off the ground (if you are wet, the ground is wet, and it strikes the tree 50' away, it's gonna get ya) C. get under cover or indoors.  all in all, shelter is always the best bet.  I laugh heartily at the fools who run for their cars. sure, run  from the safety of the villiage to the big open flat parking lot where you are now the tallest thing in the area to get struck, and let's hold an umbrella up so we can be even taller.  people are thick.

also good to note, much like head injury, problems from strikes can go unnoticed for hours or days afterward.  if you even suspect being involved in a strike, see the doctor.

I've never been struck, but have come close, and have seen it happen.   before a strike occurs, there is warning.... and you will have about 1/2 second to react.  if you hear a loud buzz, or feel your skin tingling or hair (head, neck, arms) stand up, MOVE.  if you see someone else's hair stand up, MOVE.  if you smell an odd electric (ozone) smell, MOVE.  I know that 1/2 second is not much, but it's enough to get out of a direct strike path (take a step and throw yourself), or to get your hands off the metal fence or tall object (bout 5 yrs ago a lad was burned when the kings swing was struck while he had hands on.  also, wood structure better then camper. same storm, guy got groundstruck inside his camper sitting on a metal table)

ADD ON:  A strike can travel through pipes, wiring, etc.  if there is a lightning storm going on, and you are in a booth with such things, keep hands off taps, spigots and faucets, light switches & extension cords.  although a secondary strike (ground, side flash) likely wont do serious damage, it can wreck your day/week/month.

I love severe weather.

also, there has never been a recorded case of a hamster being struck by lightning.  so hold your hamster over your head, and you'll be safe

That only beacuse they've never been able to find enough of the hamster left to question him.

Now if a hamster got struck by lightning wouldn't it just be a puff of fur and smoke?

Only 3 weekends left?!!  Noooooo!  When did that happen?

This weekend was enjoyable...I was not too fond of the rain and lightning on Saturday, as that was quite scary, but thankfully I had just left Charlotte's booth and returned to my own so I was a good distance from it, though still altogether much too close.  We were pretty busy that day prior to the rain, in fact both days were much busier than the weekend before so that was very nice.

And on Sunday night I went to the Bastille party, which I'd never been to before.  That was, um...enjoyable also...considering I wasn't even at the party for most of it.  ;D  Damn there's no halo smiley anymore...

We shall be there this coming weekend - looking forward to it!  Is there anywhere special to congregate?

Everywhere?

Mistress Charolettes booth is a good one and very easy to find. Once in the front gate take a left at the Satyr/faun. She is the first face painting gazebo next to the garland cart.

Make sure you get there EARLY like before 9. If you get there around 8:30 you get very close parking (Oh and don't park in the lower area when you get there, that is for performers, keep going past it until you are close to the front gate)

Prepare for rain as it has rained every weekend. Also prepare for 90 degree temps with some humidity

See you on Saturday. You'll find me as I will be in my Copper and Black dress most likely with my tan tall hat. My hair is no longer red but dark brown. Toki will be in his Black cavalier hat with burgandy plumes and his burgandy Ravenswood leather doublet. Stop us and say hi.

Zoe, does this angel smiley face have anything to do with your walk to "look at the stars" with a certain someone?  lol.

I AM SO DEPRESSED about there only being 3 weekends left, this may be my last year because I'm going to college in Florida (however, as much as I love faire, I've pretty much decided I'll have to come back.  I don't know what I'd do without it).

I'm not much of a congregator... (it's the ADD).... more of an instigator.   ;D

<<<--- That's what I/we look like.  normally one of us is in persuit of the other.
warning, it you come near, you are in the game.  if he touches you and says "tagyourit" you gotta chase us.
Just listen for shouts of "awww... he's adorable" (actually it's Lord Adorable, Duke of the Children's Realm) and "Get 'em Elijah"

Fla has a bunch of faires, many of which will take place durring the year  (and smaller faires love to get people who have big faire experience)..... you can use those to stay sane till you come back to us next summer with stories about how they do it.   I'll bet you see more faires then most of us.

just don't turn pirate.    :D

And just what is SO WRONG with turning Pirate? I did it and had more fun than being a noble. I even got to give the Sheriff shiner bock when he accused me of talking to bushes. i told him he was mad for seeing talking bushes.

that was not "turning" pirate.  that was "dressing down".   :D

"turning" pirate is casting off all other personas and staying pirate.  and them FLA people take their pirate shine very seriously.
