Sorry, I don't remember the other title, but there was issused a challenge to make something with what you have.

I took up the challenge, and now have a completed (more or less) product.  Now I just have to find a picture of it.

How are you doing on this challenge?

Lady Rosalind

I made a forepart and sleeves, plus an underskirt out of stash fabric. Of course, the fabric had originally been bought specifically for this purpose, so it may not count.  ;D

Still no pics of the underskirt, but I should be able to get some tomorrow night. But really, it's just a sliver/black irridescent tafetta skirt... simple as pie.  ;D

If I remember correctly the challenge was something like:

Fabricaholics this one is for YOU!
It's time to go through that massive stash of fabric and make some NEW GARB!
Because who doesn't like new garb ( If you don't, I do and can send you my measurments! LOL JK!) :D

OK
1. Attempt to make new garb from the underpinnings up using only stash fabric.
2. Purchasing thread or notions is ok, but more points if it all comes from stash
3. H/A J/F or FA DOES NOT MATTER!!!! Whatever makes you feel special at Faire makes you equally as special with us!
4. It doesn't matter if the NEW GARB is made for you or for someone else.
5. HAVE FUNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!

And of course! MAKE SURE YOU POST A PHOTO (or more than one!!!!!) Also, links to dress diaries are ok too!!!!

{moderator} Hey all, I have see the use of the artsy lettering a bit.... and the scrooling artsy just kills me.... , and sad to say, that I have a very very old monitor and it is VERRY hard to read it.  Can we not use that stuff out of respect for those of us with older Monitors? Thank you>..... {/moderator}

Oh, pretty!  I love that brilliant gold with the burgundy trim. :)

Aaah, fun! And an environmental-friendly challenge! And a great way to get to use the stash that is "parked" in ones piles of fabrics... I made a stomacher for a "Phantom of the Opera" project some moths ago, and it was all scrap materials (gotta love those creative nights...). here is the finished bodice, and the costume design:

(click to get larger pictures)

The ground layers are unbleached cotton fron IKEA, of which I have tons. The boning was stuff I already had, and the black silk was a scrap piece from the black, gold trimmed undersleeves of the pink Bronzino dress. The various flowers were cut out from a fabric I bought ages ago (for another project, but I didn't end up using it), and patched on, forming a nice pattern.

The white/burgundy twisted trim was one of the oldest pieces in my stash collection (I think I bought it in 1997 or something), and the black glittering piece is front was also quite old. Ah... but the small pink roses were bought for the occation. Does it still count as a scrap product?  ???

Oh, that was my challenge, from ages ago!  I'm really chuffed that some of you are still doing this.  Thanks for the updates.

gypsylakat

oooo you know what would be a lot of fun? If we had a challenge like every 2 months or every month even about a different item to make with stash! Like one month it could be an underskirt, another month it could be a bag, a hat, an accessory of your choice.... a bodice...

A monthly or bi-monthly little challenge for smaller/simpler items would be great.  I might actually manage to get a few things done!  Not that I haven't been sewing this year...  FTL sewing a specialty of the house, as you know, but no real garb suitable for fair, unless you didn't mind a gaggle of boys in seriously posh pirate coats!   ;D ;D

gypsylakat

lol I know the feeling... about getting stuff done lol....

Any other suggestions about categories?

Ok I'm trowing project "Overwelmed" out there.
1) find a picture/ image of an item you want to make
2) you have 6 weeks
3) You only have $150 to spend total.

The concept is that there is not way in "hello" that you can get it done in the time, and money.

I know this is NOT a ren item but I am showing it because it is what I did.

The base fabric is white twill with a layer of gold chiffon over it.  The gems were 2nds we got from a company that was just going to trash them. The blue of the skirt was an old blue velvet dress that was falling apart.  I had to buy all of the red and green satin, a little bit of white silk and lots and lots of wonder under.

I know there are some amazing seamstresses out there.  If you want to REALLY test you stash, and creativity.  Try this.

{moderator}  Take it a step further.... you can only spend $25 to $50.  I know in my current situation..... i couldnt spend much more than $25 {/moderator}
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

I love project overwhelmed, awesome idea! lol.

Still working on my 2 gowns, that I am doing from my stash, no pics yet, as I am still putting the dratted things together.

One is an SCA Tourney Liz, for camping in but still looking 16th Century fabulous and the other is the Mary Queen of Scots gown, that will be a bit more fancy, I am couching like mad.

Ever notice most garbers don't do One thing at a time? LOL

Lady Rosalind

LOL, Cilean! If we worked on only one thing at a time, we'd never get anything done!  ;D

Syrilla

The skirt and hanging sleeves (that you can't see tied behind my back) are from a wedding dress.
The bodice and puffs are old silk slightly tea dyed.  The black silk underlayers are left overs.  The trim I have had for ever. The ruff is old gold material from a veil.  The veil (attached to the crown) is from a former wisk.  The hoopskirt was leftover red cotton, and the hoops were from years past.  The underskirt and sleeves were from a different dress.  The french hood/ crown was of old silk, trinkets, jewels, and metal findings.
The only thing new, was the metal pieces on the crown/french hood.  I found those at goodwill when I couldn't find anything that I wanted.

Syrilla

I fixed the wrinkles!

methinks it's time for a new stash challenge! I'm going to make a new thread...

Okay I am still working on my MQoS (Mary Queen of Scots) gown! I am machine embroidering the heck out of the dratted thing so it takes a lot of time when I have it! So as soon as I can I shall show you all the pictures!
