I agree with Zoe, there's a special hell for people who abuse animals (and I don't even believe in Hell, normally).  My Catholic aunt used to say that people who rescued animals got a special get-out-of-purgatory-free card and went straight to heaven, no questions asked.

When I was little, my mom and I went to a farm to see about a stud dog for our golden.  Mom wasn't sure about getting him, cause our girl was a light golden and this one was a very dark red color.  Then we saw the guy hit his dog in the head - with a shovel.  My mother immediately agreed to his price on the condition that we could take the dog home immediately.  He would hide whenever we swept the kitched floor or shoveled snow off the back porch.  He also had seizures that we controlled with medication, and even though we can't say for sure his abuse caused it, we think it played a role.  Yes, the special Hell.

So, to keep this on-topic . . . yes, I think everyone should continue to post regularly throughout the off-season.  Including Paige the elephant - why doesn't she have a profile on here, anyways?  I do hope she's not afraid of hamsters . . .

Funny thing is Elephants ARE Infact afraid of Mice, Myht Busters did an episode on it in an Elephant Preserve. The Elephnat would be walking along and Adam and Jamie would release the mouse in the elephants path. While the elephant did not stampede it did everything to avoid the mouse.

HUM Makes me wonder if they would freak out on Hamsters. Must keep that in mind in case good elephants go bad. Hey you and Holier should remember that as wll. Might just save your life someday :)

Yep.  Even "domestic" animals are dangerous.

I worked at a pet store once.  A lady came in a bought a hamster.  Yes a hamster.  This is the place that I learned Hamsters were Eeeeevil!

So in the 5 minutes (or less) that it took her to get from the cages to the register, the hamster bit her.

Cause guess what she did?  She stuck her finger inside the cardboard box that had a scared, angry, and confused hamster inside it.

(This is not what convinced me that hamsters were evil.  She entirely deserved it.)

Store-raised hamsters are extremely high-strung, nervous animals that will bite on almost any and all occasions.  (Although DUH, if you're going to stick your fingers in the cage, expect to be bitten!)  If you're into small rodents, always, always always buy them young or breed them yourself (hah, watch out for that one) because then they will grow up with you.  Our store-bought hamsters were always biters, but the ones we bred ourselves are awesome guys comfortable with being in your hands and out of their cages.  And, they tend to live longer too.

But ultimately, Paige has to like you, and Bill has to like you, and think that he needs you.  Both of them are a little tough to get close to initially, but once you do, they are fierce friends.

To echo Hey... Yes you need to get Paige's trust and Bill's trust. I have heard since I started that Paige does not care for women, she hates the smell of sex and well many other interesting quirks.

Luckily on my first day walking her, I had an Arnold Palmer in my mug.  No one warned me that this was her favorite drink or that she does not care for women.  I was just told to walk by her and get people to stay back.  Before we even left the gate, she whumped me full trunk on the side of the head.  I think she was going for the mug, but missed.  If she wanted to hurt me, I would have been in the parking lot.  Anyway... I stumbled through the parade and had a concussion. The first of a few from my sweet friend.  She felt so bad though for hurting me.  If I did not show up the next week i think she would have felt really bad.  She was actually happy to see me the next weekend.

As far as Bill... he is more of an animal person than a people person.  He has a great sense of humor though once you get to know him and boy can that man dance!

Paige has a great sense of humor too.  When I showed up as Madame Zheng, she walked the whole course with us, but once we got back to the pen, she tried to steal my wig.  She knew who I was, and the wig did not belong there.

She is smart enough as well to know that the hamster we have on our shoulders are not real.  If we had real ones, she would smell them before she got too close.

I miss our pachydermal friends.

Okay so kinda back to the elephant thing! I didn't know anything about the elephants and I'm really really glad they are well taken care of. My friends where asking about them as well as my mother. I told her they seemed happy but really I was talking out of my arse.. he he But not I can 100% tell them they are very very well cared for. yeah!

I have found someone who can match your dulcet tones my dear Sister! My 4 year old nephew can manage some god awful noise that beats you!

My favorite moment happens alot at my shop, when I put the garland on a little girls head and ask them to find the flower princess in the mirror and their little faces light up like Cristmas morning is the best thing ever! Even better is when I get hugs from the little princesses!

Aha!  A future Krewe member for the elephants!  Yeah.  One day I'm going to show up recruit him.

Doing something special for the kids is great.  You are also a godsend with the misters!   :o  Not the guys, the sprayers.  'Course you could be a godsend to the guys as well.  ;)  I love your booth and everyone at/in it!

I love giving the kids my nun favors, origami favors and wood germs.  I made over 200 of my nun favors before season started this year.  Gave most of them away even though I was not the nun.  It is so great to see them smile.  The cutest thing of all though is when Charming and Dashing give the little girls the glass slippers.  The lost princess routine and everything just steals my heart.  It is so cool to see their faces light up.

Yuppers the Garland Girls are the ones with the misters! They are really fun to play with!

I'll tell my sister that he has a gig when he is older  ;D

Playing with the kids is the best part because they really belive that they are back in time! Its the best thing ever! ( also the fact that I never really got out of playing dress up lol)

Capt Gabriela Fullpepper

I love the children at faire, especially the little girls who think I am a REAL Princess or a queen. I can remember a time long ago in a faire not so faire away (yes our own) that not many children or even young teens were present. The faire has really ecome a much more family orientated event to partake in.

But I will admit I dislike parents who bring the new borns or toddlers to a hot or even cold faire. Only for the fact that those children cannot fend for themselves and it is a hot, dusty place. I know I didn't bring my own kids until they were 7. But kids like Elijah are the exception as he has parents that work there and do take care of his needs.

Mischief Snicklebritches

I agree lady de laney. I cannot stand to see newborn babies out there. Especially when its 80-90 degrees. Their little bodies arent meant to be out in that temp for so long. Plus, when they're teeny-tiny...what in the heck is mom doing out there? I didn't want to go ANYwhere that soon after having my kids. let alone go hiking in 80+ degree weather. blah.

I have to say that Charming and Dashing's thing with the Glass Slippers and the little girls are my favorite of all time. It just melts my heart.
I too love all the kids, more and more I just go to entertain the kids. *and to see all of you, naturally :D* That's why I loved being Mischief this year. She was so fun, and I didn't have to think of witty things to say to adults. After several years of doing that, believe me, Ive run out of stuff to say, and now its just boring. lol. In fact, it was just lovely not to have to say anything at all :D *no cheeky comments needed....lol*

But yeah. I miss you guys. Everyone doing alright?
How do I know I haven't missed it?!...what if it WAS the chicken!

The Baroness and I are doing quite well, thank you Lady Remi for asking.  We returned only last evening from a most enjoyable pilgrimage to Canterbury (Kansas City Renaissance Festival), where we were warmly welcomed by cast and patrons alike.  It is but a nine-hour carriage ride from Larkspurshire, and well worth the toll.  It wasn't quite the same as going to CRF where we know so many wonderful people, and where we know where all the privies are, but it sure beat not having a festival to attend at all.  Now, on to Santa Fe!

Mischief and Mayhem were a great addition this year!  I hope you two can continue to do the characters.
I missed so many of the new characters this year by being in a booth, but you two stuck out and I loved it!

yesss. Elijah seems to be the exception to many things.   ;D
I had one of the best seasons ever this year, just playing with my son.  cannot tell you the joy that brought me.  it was kinda strange going from "Hey- Arent you.." (one of robins men) to "hey- Arent you.." (Elijah's Daddy) but I'm just as proud of the latter as the former. and watching hm build and grown his own friendships was amazing.

Huzzah everyone! I'm back from my several month hiatus (alot of crazy and/or weird stuff happened). ??? ;D I saw I missed the group picture- sad day but that was my fault because I only went to faire twice and with " not really rennie people". Did anyone joust hamsters? Or catch them? Feels good to be back!
