Thanks for the German castles Dona. Beautiful! You are right about the heavy remods, but still beautiful and neat to imagine the original structure all that grandeur grew around.

Thank you for the snowy castle pictures!! Those are so COOL, pun intended!

Any more requests? I'll do a few crusader castles in the next few days.

Thank you for the visit to the Castle del Morro!  Our visit there in `84 was the highlight of our trip through San Juan )one of the stops on a cruise).

I loved seeing a castle that you can actually stay in! Would it be possible to find a few more of those?

The Castle of Chinon would be interesting. That is the setting for The Lion in Winter. Not a very cheery Christmas family gathering there, but l imagine it's much lovlier in real life. :)

Dona, thankyou. I'd done a quickWiki search just to be sure that was it's name, but you've found some wonderful pictures I hadn't seen. Especially love the views from the vineyards and the close up of the symols carved in the walls of the cells.

Love the interiors of the previous castle too. Gosh wouldn't you love to dine at that table by the fire, and  wake in that gorgous bedroom. I could live there for sure.

DonaCatalina

Thanks- I thought Chateau de Roumont in the snow was pretty impressive too.

Yes. Beautiful style with that type of turrets. Very romantic. Makes you want to get the sleigh rigged up with bells and go jingling all the way.

DonaCatalina

Its amazing how much of the 'holywood castle' comes from French Gothis styles like that one.

You would be surprised how few castles are actually for rent. There are tons of places advertising to rent castles; but when you actually check it out it is not the castle. You would be renting a country house or a cottage next to the castle.
