This is apparently the new phrase. I've been hearing it on the news for a few weeks now.

Has your company or school brought this up in a meeting?

Around here (south Florida) I haven't seen much of a change in the sales people that visit our business.
They are talking about precautions for schools on the news but thats about it.

I think personally a lot of the problem with the spread of disease is 2 fold.
1- People that are feeling ill or even know they are ill going to work anyway or sending kids to school anyway- that is completely irresponsible even if it is just the regular flu and not the H1N1. If you know your sick stay home.

That problem is caused by the fact that people can't afford to take a couple of sick days because their employer would fire them. I don't get this mentality that employees arent regular people with regular problems and illnesses. Some employers really think that employees have no right to having normal human issues. I don't get that.

2- IMHO, I think a lot of the modern pandemic issues are caused by all the recirculated air. Its been proven that hospitals that have open windows and allow fresh air in have a lot less contamination issues than the "sterile" hospitals that have 100% recirculated air. Its inevitable that if you get a ton of people cramped in close quarters all breathing the same air over and over that stuff is going to get passed around.  There is a reason that UV lights are used to kill parasites and bacteria in water and air, the easiest way to get it is sunlight.

But thats just my opinion.
Granted I am not exposed to very many people, on a busy day if I go shopping maybe 20 people or so in close contact. And I work in an open air building doing mostly things outdoors on boats, so I am not surrounded by 60 people in cubicles all coughing up on one another. Then again I chose this line of work exactly for the reason so that I wouldn't be surrounded by so many people in close quarters

So, do you still get to meet them at the restaurant, where they can buy your lunch?  LOL!  That's the best thing about sales calls!  ;)

I'd be more worried about the "normal" flu than H1N1.  The Swine flu is actually milder than standard flu... all the hype is just more fear mongering.

Great new term for the two-word culture! We're gunna need a new lexicon.  ;)

Hrmm...guess I'm paranoid, because that's exactly what it sounded like to me.  Especially when they were still recommending it after pointing out the stuff about studies showing it had little effect in actually preventing the spread of disease.

I think it's rediculous.  Especially when there are lots of people complaining already that internet social networking is replacing real-life social interaction and that that is a Bad Thing.  Now we're all supposed to hide in our houses cuz we *might* get sick?

Also, it strikes me as really funny that the day after the White House came out with their precidtions of Doom! with swine flu (which I'm assuming is what is prompting the above linked nonsense), the CDC said they thought those numbers were vastly over-estimated.
