Official website : http://www.medievalfaire.com/

For those who want to map your way there, or check the local weather.

Address:
3033 State Route 534
Rock Creek OH 44084

For the first time visitor to the shire.
A little walkthrough to get you familiar with the shire.
http://www.tylisaari.com/medieval/map/glmftour.htm

Weather.
Temperature. On hot days, expect high 90's with 90% humidity.
There is plenty of shade in the shire, bur a couple areas are in full sun. (Like the chessboard, the joust field, and the entrance area.)
Wear clothing that will breath, keep hydrated, and sunscreen isn't a bad idea. Even with the shade you can still get burnt.
On the other extreme it can get chilly if there is a storm brewing, or just a cold snap. Temps can get down into the low 70's. Not common, but it can happen.

A few more usefull bits of information

You can leave the faire to go out to your car, to drop of purchases or whatever, just make sure you have them stamp your hand when you leave if you plan on re-entering the faire.

Weapons are allowed, but they must be peace tied at all times.
Security will check them as you come in, and if they deem it necissary, they will put a zip tie on it to hold it in it's sheath.

If are looking for beverages other than alcohol, then I suggest you either get the plastic cups at the faire pop stands. Refills are only $2. (sounds like a lot, but those cups hold quite a bit)
OR
You can go to Piper's Pub, and get a period looking bottle.
Refills are only $1 on the smaller sizes, and $2 for the larger ones.
They have a wide variety of sizes, shapes, and colors. They serve things like rootbeer, lemonade, orange cream, cream ale. (nothing with caffene though )
But they do take real money.

That brings me to the Avaloch notes.
Almost all food stands, and all the pubs only accept Avaloch notes. Not real money.
Exchange booths are located near the food areas.
Just don't get more than you will use.
You cannot trade them back in at the end of the day!
They are good anytime you are at the faire though. So if you plan on returning, it is not such a big deal. I still have a few dollars worth in my pouch from last season that I will use opening day.

You are not allowed to bring in your own food or drink.

Now for a little monetary discussion.
Food prices range from $2 for cookies at the bakery up to around $7 for a dinner at Fryer Pluck's, with most entres running around the $5 mark.
Not sure about prices at the pubs, but I think most drinks run around $4.
This is a 'tipping' faire.
In other words, most of the stage acts will 'pass the hat' after a show for tips.
Tipping is not required, but it does help to pay the acts for their travel, lodging, and other living expenses. So if you enjoy a show it doesn't hurt to show your appreciation.

Armed with that information you should be able to budget accordingly.
Just don't forget to bring some money to spend at all the great vendor booths.
There is a wide variety of goods and services out there. And it adds up quick. But there is a lot of cool stuff to be had, and it would be a shame to not have enough in the pouch to cover what you want.

Also, I get behind sometimes when it comes to posting info here that I get on my own board. So I figure I had better post a link.
http://tay666.proboards27.com/

You don't have to register to read or post.
So if you get curious, you can swing over there and read what is going on.

Also once faire starts, I will be posting my pictures every week, on my site.

Trev, I'm getting a "Cannot display" message on your site.

I asked some time ago about camping sites around the GLMF.  I got a great response from several people and all seemed to agree that Richard's was the place to be.  There were several others listed just in case, all with addresses and phone numbers.  Not being one to foresee all the possible disasters, I thought I could go back at any time and retrieve the info.  When the monster rolled over and we lost everything, so went the info.

Could some kind person please repost?  I understand the State frowns upon tenting at rest areas.

If you want to drive further, there are several more in the area - but who wants to drive further....................

I'm getting the same message on Trevor's site - funny - all was well there earlier today. No doubt some small cyber space glitch - never fear, he'll have it fixed soon!

T'anks, highlandcoo.  I have printed it out this time.  Now if I can put it someplace where I can find it when the time comes.

Perhaps if you copy , paste & email it to yourself? I lose things too! If you can't find it when the time comes - let me know & I'll send you the list again. I post on the other board using the same id. I live about a mile from faire, so I know the area pretty well & am glad to assist our out of town visitors with local information when I can. Richard's is definitely the closest & Heritage Hills is also very close -both about 5 miles drive. Glad to help  ;)

I'll put it on my board too when it comes back up.
The company that hosts the boards is having some trouble.
The server farm they were using had a major electrical explosion that knocked out about 9000 servers.
The Proboards staff has been working around the clock to get things up and running as best they can.
I could have instituted a temporary board to get something up and running, but I chose not to. As that would just make things more confusing once things got back to normal.

AAGGHHH! We leave tomorrow morning from Mid-Michigan. I'm having garb anxiety. How Medieval IS your faire?
I just made a 1570's Venetian and I want to show it off/try it out, you know?
I have seen the pictures you posted, and it SEEMS like any other faire, but...

How Medieval are you about garb?

Whew, I'm packing an extra gown, just in case. *mumbles something about making a mountain out of a mole hill*
Fortunately, ah keep mah feathers numbered...for just such an emergency.

Capt. Morgan

Our Faire is pretty devoid of "Garb Nazis" so I wouldn't worry...as it is, I'll be "Privateering" it on the morrow, far from Medieval so bring what you feel comfy in and weather appropriate. Our Faire is about having a good time, not a Fashion Show
I can be one of those "bad things" that happen to bad people.

Bloody Pirates! You know I love 'em. My hubby will be Kilted on Sunday, another awesome look on a man.

ah...men!

Now now...some of us are more fashionistas then others....lol.  If you are talking about era's and things like that...I would not worry about.  GLMF is more of a Fantasy Faire so any era will do...Saturday will be more late 1400's early 1500's while Sunda will be more medieval.  But thats me...

There are Kitls and pirates (mostly of the Goldenage kind), warriors and even a samurai or two walking around...so anything goes!!

It is always more fun in Garb.....

I would rather endure a thousand biblical hells then live a life of perpetual inconsequence.

Greetings!
My daughters and I will be attending GLMF this weekend for the first time and being a garbinista, I have some garb questions. I don't have Roman but I do have Medieval-13th century (Catherine the Moor), Italian pirate mama ca. 1700--Caterina Passero (Catherine Sparrow), and late Italian Ren. Your website says Medieval so I'll probably go with that. My daughter says everyone actually does Ren and I might stick out. Who then does Medieval? Is it OK to do Medieval?

Stolen Signature: If all isn't lost, then where is it?

Higgins

Greetings and salutations! Great lakes is set to the medieval period. While the cast and quite a number of playtrons are dressed in period garb, you will find a number of pirates, gypsies, fae folk, warriors and ren as well. All are well accepted and welcome. I would advise you to wear whatever would make you happy.

trevor ylisaari

Yes, as Higgins says, wear what you want.
We are not snobs and will not turn into garb nazis.
At GLMF it is all about fun, and being who you want to be.

IF you want to get some ideas, you can look at the pictures on my site.
Here you can see what the cast looks like.

Your pictures of the cast are just the thing I need. When I go to a faire, I don't know the roles. It took me a few years of attending my own MiRF to figure out who is who. Thank you for doing such a wonderful photo page.

Cindy
BTW: i like to bookmark pages like that. In February, I'll put some Ren music on and look at all kinds of faire pictures and videos.
