ok, mine are nothing to brag about, but here it goes:

skirt was done-4 hours before ren fair, lol-chemise, and bodice ( i had alot of extra help on that one)

first ever pair of pants i made-they are to my pirate outfit, i loved the way they poofed when tucked into my boots

and my most recent piece-peasant garb-the front is basically an open split skirt, with trim, and goldish velvet underneath-i popped that baby out 6 hours before opening day at parf-i finished it just as my friends were coming in so we can leave

You haven't had enough coffee unless you can thread a sewing machine while it's running.

I have been away for a while and am impressed with the nice work that has been recently been posted.  Nice work all!  I have been heavily involved in my daughter's wedding and a blown up mother board.

I know that we post work from medieval to 18th century - but can I post a couple of 19th century photos of my daughter's wedding just this once?  If I have have pushed the envelope the moderator can pull this down, but I have so many friends from a distance here that I would really like to share this.

My daughter in the French court garb that she designed and I made.  The lovely silver embroidery was done by a fellow costumer with a great embroidery machine.  Sarah made her groom's clothing and did a great job of tailoring his coat and getting the collar of the waistcoat just right.   I have really been impressed with the speed in which her skills have advanced!  She is one year from getting her BFA in Tech Theater with a focus on costuming and make-up.

The MNRF Prince James, Brother to the King, Royal Doublet  is finished and was picked up today. He was estatic. Over 1,800 Hand sewn faceted 4mm, 6mm, 8mm beads, 55 yards of Black Soutach, hand sewn buttonholes. No wonder my fingers are raw.

Fantastic Kathy!!! It looks splendid!

Did you use hooks and eyes for the closure?

I am heading down to the Fabric District in L.A., I am hoping to get a deal on some Silk Satin in Blue and Grey/Silver for my Hubby and Son and if I find some in Red, for the baby (who is 10 so not much of a baby anymore!)

Lady Kathleen of Olmsted

Cilean,

The buttonholes are real and the buttons are 8mm black faceted beads. The buttons I wanted to use were not going to work. The beads add more glimmer to the front opening and stand out more than the buttons would have.

I did the buttonholes with the machine. After taking the fur knife and carefully opening them, the fabric was shedding. Polyester does not make for doublets. I did not select the fabric. So I ended up taking Copper thread and hand sewing over the machine sewn buttnholes, which make it look more period. I also cheated a bit. The middle 2 buttons in each group are sewn unto the buttonhole to cover them. The outer two are sewn onto the doublet itself. This way, the Prince has less buttons to button.
