Very nice.  :) I like that pattern very much.

That's the same pattern you used for your pink corset Gem?

Yup! Good old Simplicity 2621! I skipped the busk, though (no tools to make/shape one) and boned it entirely with cable ties. I've also made a hemp-corded version (that I still need to bind), and I'm the process of making a kirtle using that pattern for the bodice (with small alterations). Great pattern! Terrific fit (I didn't need to alter mine at all, but YMMV), and it turns out beautifully. My only complaints about the pattern are that it doesn't nip in at the waist much, so it gives more of a cylinder shape than the conical ideal of the period... and that the construction instructions are a little bit odd--they leave exposed seams on the inside of the corset that they want you to bind (you can see them in Alisoun's busk photo). Since that's not normal corset construction, I make up each layer individually and sandwich the seams inside. Easy change.

But I'll say it again: Alisoun's is GORGEOUS!! That red fabric is so beautiful, and the boning channels look like embellishments. Is it silk?

Alisoun

Thanks, all!

Gem, your version was the reason I ultimately decided to use the pattern, which was collecting dust. So, thanks!

The outer fabric is cotton twill that came from my remnant bin, and I was concerned that it would look horribly piecemeal with all of the colors (inside and out). I was surprised that it turned out so presentable. I chose to serge the seams instead of binding them because I hadn't picked out fabric for bias tape at that point.

I will definitely make another one.

Ok, most beautiful cotton twill ever!! Look at that incredible sheen!  (And I think serging the exposed seams makes total sense. I was looking at them and thinking about all that bulk, once they were bound. But serged seam allowances wouldn't even be noticeable as you wore them!)

I made my busk out of a paint stick!  Just spent some time with sand paper and it looks great. ;)

Alisoun,
What pattern did you use for your chemise?

Alisoun

The chemise is from the Margo Anderson pattern - Elizabethan Lady's Underpinnings, high-necked smock.

A fun project my Apprentice, Elizabeth did yesterday for her Ameican Girl Doll. Using a McCalls Doll pattern  for 18" dolls. I helped her a little bit.

The fabric is a brocade with Paisley designs. Elizabeth wanted a Gothic look. Who would ever guess that this McCalls pattern is for a Nightgown??http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m3900-products-3411.php?page_id=909 Elizabeth plans for more Gothic ensembles for her Doll.

I have that doll pattern, too. I have been making 18" dollclothing since Nov. 1, 2010, for my granddaughters. I plan on making ren theme doll clothing, too.

I still have my American Girl doll (Molly) and wish I had excuses to take it places to show it off...I would totally make tons of outfits for her if I did...
Things are shaping up to be...
Pretty. Odd.

Who needs an excuse?  Take her to fair with you!  Lots of little (and big!) girls will love her!

Lady Kathleen, Elizabeth did a wonderful job!  I love that dress!  (does it come in people size?  LOL)

Here is a little something I have been dabbling with while watching football.   Not completely historically accurate due to materials used, but awfully fun faire wear!    I think they would look charming with a pretty necklace or even in the neck of your favorite chemise.    I would love to make some for our fae friends with little woodland bits.   I thought of it watching Helen Miren in Elizabeth I.   She wore several detached ruffs in open neck gowns.
Would you wear one?
