GoodyTombShoes

The venetians were pieced, taped and cut using a short pattern. The waistband and legbands were simply cut and tried. I lined them in spandex, cut smaller than the shorts to give them poof. He requested ties in the leg bands to pull them tight. The cape is from a musketeer costume pattern( Simplicity 2334). We thought about braids and what not but I made the decision to use gold roping. It was supposed to have thick gold rope going thru the neck to tie it in place and to sling it sideways so I added a 2inch neck to the collar. I stopped the gold braid to make room for the rope and he decided to add the buttons and chain closure. It will bug me when I see the break in the roping. The doublet is not my work but I think it's in need of a redo. I hear him musing about a Mandelion. It looks like a tabbard with sleeve flappy things.  ::)

WOW people!!! Outstanding!!!

Kathleen! Great first ruff! They get better the more you work with them. I figured out my own procedure to making them after several trials. Don't give up!

My first sewing project in a year ... 5 day corset.  (I started Monday, grommetted this afternoon.)

Betty Munro

It laces up the back and front, so I'll loosen the back to get the front together for faire.  I just wanted to get pictures posted before dinner!

Looks beautiful. Love the fabric. I am really going to have to buy some now.
May the stars always shine upon you and yours.

Woo-hoo!  You finished!!

I can't remember if you told us whether you used a pattern or not. The shape looks great on you!

Toua Taru

Absolutely beautiful work Betty! As is everyone elses work. I've been lurking here for a bit but haven't commented and felt I should make my presence known. I'm envious of everyone's wonderful talents :)

A friend drew the pattern for me from one of her own bodices that I like.  I assume it is not from one of the commercial pattern companies, or she would have just told me to go buy it.

I love your Corset, Betty! The fabric is an awesome choice.

A Pirate Coat for Stephanie that was inspired by a 2011 episode of Dr. Who that took part on a  Pirate Ship.

Now off to a 2 week vacation to Upstate New York via the Bristol Renaissacne Festival, Niagra Falls, Cooperstown, where my husband grew up, NYC/Ellis Island, and Gettysburg.

Lady Rebecca

I finished my first Victorian corset! It was started in the Victorian corsetry class at Costume College. The fit is not perfect (I wound up taking it in about 2" from the waist to the top, and it still feels a little big at the bust), but it's not enough to bother me. I plan to do some corset flossing on it in the future, but that will have to wait for now.

Now it's on to the bustle!

Betty Munro

Very nice!  I love the steampunk embroidery down the front.  Fantastic!

Love the Pirate coat Lady Kathleen! I swear, I think you've been poking in my head this month, because my dad wants a gray corduroy pirate coat too!

Lady Rebecca

I made a bustle! I didn't want to spend any money on a pattern, so I tried to figure it out myself. I started by safety-pinning hoop steel to twill tape, but since that wasn't laying right on the sides (it was sort of crunching up), I decided to use it as a base, and draft a pattern from it. And this is my result! All I have left is to stitch the sort of ruffle at the center of the bottom so that it stays put.
