Lady Rosalind

So many beautiful projects! I am trying to get caught up on all of my reading now that our faire is over. :(

So, if any of you were wondering why I wasn't around much at all this summer, whereas I usually am frantically asking for help and/or kicks to the rear, I  was busy designing and making the Queen's gown and accessories, and the King's doublet, for the Des Moines Renaissance Faire. No pressure or anything, LOL!

By a quirk of fate, I do not have any pictures of my own, but have to rely on the photos of others:

Photos from Steve Gray's site:

- Shot by our own Robert from the Orkes and Trolls.

The Queen's gown is made of a dark lavender satiny, heavy taffeta, with dark purple taffeta accents. Her underskirt and forepart of a gold silk damask, and the sleeves are gold embroidered silk with purple iridescent taffeta piping. The King's doublet is a dark iridescent purple taffeta.

I stopped keeping track of how many hours I spent on this project...  let me know what you all think!  ;D

Note: There are still some fitting problems on the shoulders of the Queen's gown (they were perfect when I pinned them at the final fitting), and the king's doublet ended up just a bit too big.

The first thing that caught my mind was actually the perfect fit of the front bodice of her dress. Gorgeous! But the colour scheme is also lovely, and the materials look very right (for both of them). Brava!!

Absolutely lovely.  I love the sleeves which your photo didn't show.  In the link you included there is a great view of the sleeves.  Thank you for sharing this and the photo link which was fun to look at.

Beautiful!

Isn't it funny how things shift between pinning and sewing...

Huzzah Lady Rosiland!! Gorgeous!!!

Getting things just right is tricky. The  latest ensemble I did, I need to redo the Tudor sleeve bottom for more forearm room. Alterations are part of the business of garb making.

The white straw hat came from Target's dollar section, the moccasins came from Goodwill, the tights and the grey shoes came from Wal-Mart. Everything else was made by my beautiful wife, Cheri.

Ian's outfit is from a McCall's pattern. Chiane's chemise is the tunic from the same pattern. Her dress is an adult's medieval lady costume modified to fit her. The biggins cap is from a free pattern I found online.

OOOH!  Fairies!  That little one ain't camera shy!   ;)

Very nicely done.  Did you make the wings?

Yes, I did make the wings!  I really had fun making them and they were not nearly as difficult as I thought they'd be.  A little "Bob Marley" and every little thing was alright.  ;)
