Here's me in the black shirt my wife Cheri just finished, standing with a knight outside Castle Glynn at TN Ren Fest yesterday.

I just took my stepsister and stepsister-in-law to the faire for the first time this weekend. Their costumes aren't historically accurate, I just wanted something they could have fun in. I think I've successfully made two converts. They had a wonderful time and are already planning our trip next year lol.

Lorraine, I think they look just wonderful. For me its all about having a great time, being accurate is ok but most I go to faire with want to have a good time with great friends. great job! ;)

They look happy with their new garb.
Historically accurate is not for everyone....Faire is mostly about having fun.
I'm sure they'll be happier with your well-made things than some
cheap mass-production item that will fall apart in the wash.

Those are really nice, Lorraine!

And well done on making a coupl4e of new converts!   ;D

They look beautiful and like they are enjoying themselves. That trumps total accuracy any day! :)

I'm new to these forums, but I really got into Ren Faires this year. I've been sewing for about 5 years now, and one of my friends asked me to make him a costume for the Norman Faire in March. I decided to make myself one, too, and now I can't stop. Here's the costumes I've made so far:

The outfit I made for myself, and another friend who wanted one at the last minute:

The one that started me off on this whole kick:

A gown I made in April, because I couldn't resist:

My one that I've been wearing to all the faires. I picked up the farthingale at Scarborough, and now I can't live without it. It was really interesting climbing up the treehouse with it on, though!

Oh, well done!  I doo like your April gown...

Gown envy! :P

Beautiful job.  I really do like the April one as well.

Really nice work.
This is addictive, isn't it?

Absolutely addictive. It stinks, because I don't actually have my own sewing machine. I work in my university's costume shop, so I just get to sew my own stuff in my free time during shop hours. And I don't know if I'll have access to a machine this summer, since I'm on wardrobe staff at a theatre, not on the costume staff...

I love the April gown, too, it's gorgeous!

Good luck with getting your own sewing machine Lady R.

My mom told me she was getting me one when I graduate in Dec. I asked for airfare to London. Oh well.

My problem is, too, that I work in theatre, so even if I had a sewing machine, I'm going to be moving around a ton, and I have a small car...
