It's back! This is my very very favorite site for portraits during the 16th c. I use it ALL the time to get ideas for new garb.

Already mentioned but one of my favorties for it's search engine.

Awesome if you want to do a period Tudor gown. She has a ton of really great information regarding that darn "Mysterious White Band" seen in the really early stuff. Personally, I think it's the corset straps.

Another all-inclusive good site for portraits/paintings of any given time period.

Perfect for Italian styles. This really is one of my favorite sites and I have copied a couple of gowns from here as well.

This site has a large catalog of Pre-Raphaelite art and you can send the art as free e-cards:

Another great image site. The photos aren't always the best, but what's interesting is that less known paintings are included, and they're often shown with frame or in context. I like that.

I have collected Renaissance portraits and paintings this last year (obviously just online scans and not the originals... :D ). The purpose was originally to make an online gallery for myself, so I could have access to the photos everywhere. I have only added picture info in the file name, so it might be a bit hard to figure out who painted it and when - but as I wrote, I originally made these galleries for my own enjoyment. But I though it might be useful to some of you too.

So far have a rather complete site about Florentine fashion, and an OK collection of fashion from the Veneto county (Venice and surroundings). The Milan/Lombardy and Bergamesque one is coming along, though they look rather modest at the moment. Galleries about Tuscany in general, Rome, Mantua, Ferarra, Cremona etc will come... eventually.... I have the pics in my computer, but I need to cut, name and upload them. So time consuming.

The hardest part is to deal with the painters who lived half their life one place, and half the life somewhere else (say... born and trained in Mantua, had a workshop in Florence). Or when they've lived their whole life one place, but painted a sitter from another Italian city (as I suspect is the deal with Raphael's "Donna Velata" - her dress looks much more Veneton than Tuscan). I'm sure I've sorted some wrong, but that's the beauty of online galleries - they can be updated so easily... Please tell me if you see some silly mistakes.

(and please note that I've used my private photobucket account to host the pictures. Think there might be some limit to how much it can handle... Hotlinking makes my face look like this:  >:( )

With a nod to Lady Nicolette, The Delaware Art Museum probably has the premier collection of Pre-Raphaelite Art in the USA. Also, there is a large collection of the illustrator Howard Pyle's works, which have greatly influenced the modern day conception of how pirates dressed. I spent many hours in the museum as a child and still go back from time to time.

I've updated the galleries a lot, plus made a "the rest" site... The Veneto galleri is updated the most, with lot of 1515-1540 paintings I had forgotten about...

This is a great scholarly resource page. It's an undergrad study module from Warwick University.

All the sites has moved here: http://aneafiles.webs.com/ (see bottom of page)

Reason is that Geocities decided to close all their web activity, which meant I had to move my site elsewhere.
