Another great image site. The photos aren't always the best, but what's interesting is that less known paintings are included, and they're often shown with frame or in context. I like that.

I have collected Renaissance portraits and paintings this last year (obviously just online scans and not the originals... ). The purpose was originally to make an online gallery for myself, so I could have access to the photos everywhere. I have only added picture info in the file name, so it might be a bit hard to figure out who painted it and when - but as I wrote, I originally made these galleries for my own enjoyment. But I though it might be useful to some of you too.

So far have a rather complete site about Florentine fashion, and an OK collection of fashion from the Veneto county (Venice and surroundings). The Milan/Lombardy and Bergamesque one is coming along, though they look rather modest at the moment. Galleries about Tuscany in general, Rome, Mantua, Ferarra, Cremona etc will come... eventually.... I have the pics in my computer, but I need to cut, name and upload them. So time consuming.

The hardest part is to deal with the painters who lived half their life one place, and half the life somewhere else (say... born and trained in Mantua, had a workshop in Florence). Or when they've lived their whole life one place, but painted a sitter from another Italian city (as I suspect is the deal with Raphael's "Donna Velata" - her dress looks much more Veneton than Tuscan). I'm sure I've sorted some wrong, but that's the beauty of online galleries - they can be updated so easily... Please tell me if you see some silly mistakes.

With a nod to Lady Nicolette, The Delaware Art Museum probably has the premier collection of Pre-Raphaelite Art in the USA. Also, there is a large collection of the illustrator Howard Pyle's works, which have greatly influenced the modern day conception of how pirates dressed. I spent many hours in the museum as a child and still go back from time to time.
