I was a fabric a holic until the great move across the world.  I ended up donating most of the fabric to a local little theater company.  The cotton fabric went to an animal shelter.  (They have people who make crafts and such to sell to take care of the critters)
While over there a lady gave me 3 yards of silk velvet.  I found a way to get that thing back from NZ to the states with out getting damaged. I WILL find something to make out of it.
When I got back to the states I made friends with the local drapery department people at the departments store I worked at.  When they had clearanced, slightly damaged panels they would give me first pick.  I got enough of this nice plum heavy brocade to make a pirate coat.
Unfortunatly right after that I got hired to do theater shows.  Since then all my stash has become left over theater fabric.  The choice is do I keep the remenats or put it back into stock.  The adict says no, the space saver say get rid of it, what should I do?
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

OH I am totally a fabricaholic, patternholic too!  I just got my sewing room about a year ago and it is filled up already! There is fabric everywhere! I need better organization!

I think It became a problem when I missed out on the fabric I wanted 1 too many times.  I would see something I liked, wait for payday or until I really needed it and it was long gone.  Result - Lots of fabric I *think* I might use for something, but won't necessarily ever get used.

Well, I've given myself a rule: once the storage tub's full, NO MORE FABRIC. It's worked so far.

Been working down the stash since last week. Made two capes and one pirate jacket for my three grandsons. Want to go get some brocade to make my daughter a dress.

I am too poor to afford to be an addict, but my mother in law is not and I'm going to raid her stash tomorrow. hehe
My journey from mundane to Ren Actor

So I was looking through the fabric stash the other night in preparation for a trip to JoAnn's memorial day sale this weekend, to see what I had and what i thought I might do with it and therefor what I might need to buy at the sale... I was able to identify 10 different dresses! And by dress I mean underskirts, overgowns and coordinating sleeves!!! Each dress idea has on average 1 additional fabric I need in order to round out the ensemble. Yikes, I didn't know so much fabric could possible be in that pile!  :o
I think I already have my sewing list for next season filled, I might be working on the 2010 season already...

Should I mention that Hancocks is having 50% off all notions this Monday?  I'm trying to find an excuse to go.
The hubby said I could go get more fabric if I finish my outstanding projects.  ::runs off to sew::  Must have more fabric......

Ahh, the sales... My friend and I spent hours saturday pawing through all the red tag home dec fabrics that were an additional 50% off at JoAnn's. We were very good and bought only things that would match things already in the stash to complete the ensemble. I think all told we ended up with some 30 odd yards of fabric for under $80! My favorite purchases are the aqua "watered silk" looking taffeta (I think?) and the blue "antique satin" (that's what the label called it...). Both were a steal at $3.00/yd!!!

After we dragged our plunder home, I sorted it all out and I am now positive I have at least 10 pending projects lined up, that'll take me oh, like the next 2 years... YIKES!!! :o

Anyone else make out over the holiday weekend?

CountessofPhoenix

Due to a shortage of funds I stayed away from all sales; although, I found one piece of blue upholstery fabric at a garage sale for .50 and I took my daughter to see the new Narnia movie. There will be sales again around the 4th of July so maybe then.
