Title: 2010 Season
Post by: IzMeChera on February 07, 2010, 08:00:11 PM
I will be working a friend's booth this year, but I've never been to the St. Louis Faire before, so I'm looking for suggestions on what I should find the time to do/see while I'm there. :)

For non-Faire definitely visit Forest Park!  St. Louis is notorious for FREE attractions; history museum, science museum, art museum, zoo, outdoor "broadway" theater.

Those are all great ideas - tho' the outdoor theater (the Muny) does cost.  You might also want to check out the riverfront in St. Charles,  as well as the Budweiser brewery tour- maybe even Schlafly's in Maplewood if you have time...There is a lot to do and if you really have a lot of time to kill, we're not that far from some great floating in the Ozarks~

The Muny does have free seats.  Check it out.

Although I would reccomend the $9 seats.

I'm SO SORRY...I wasn't thinking when I said that!   There is an entire section of free seats- we just never use them anymore cuz we've gotten addicted to seeing better~

again...so sorry!

No biggie!
A lot of people don't believe that a city can have that much free stuff (and sometimes I hardly believe it!) so I always have the info on hand. ;D
We purchase the better seats as well. 8)

Lots of great wineries in the area, too. Try googling Augusta, MO or Hermann, Mo.

AmyJ,

Pirate fest is impossible for me to attend due to performing at the Des Moines faire each year the first three weekends in Sept. Sorry

Forecast says, "Partly Cloudy with temps in the lower seventies." But things have been known to change here in the Midwest.

was also told stormy last weekend, but never saw a drop of rain. we'll be open, even if there is that wet stuff in the air.  but this is the St Louis area, if you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes. it WILL change

Just been hiding out here in Corn Field, Illinois, enjoying my retirement.
My Lady has been having problems with her left foot, which has left me less than mobile. I need to be her feet for this and last summer. That rather limits my travel to far faires.

Sorry to hear about your wifes foot problem. I know how that can be. I am glad you are doing well yourself. If you are happening on being at any faires at all, please let me know. I may be at the same ones.

Opening day was great...wet and chilly but it was great to see everyone.  There are some new acts that are awesome!  And there have been MANY great improvements to the grounds that are good to see!

What a wet and wonderfully fun weekend... next weekend looks to be hot and humid!  As Amyj said a number of new acts ( thought Wolgemot was outstanding!!) and improvements around the grounds and really appreciated the trolley to the upper parking lots because of the soggy mess for parking.  I only caught Gem s she was leaving on Sunday will have to keep a closer eye out for everyone else in the up coming weekends.

Post by: act2redux on May 17, 2010, 03:30:42 PM
It was way more wet in Lyon than we wanted- tho' sunday was almost reasonable until nearly the end of the day~  I missed Gem completely- darn!I was so caught up in the new schedule I completely missed looking in some areas!
The only good thing about all that rain is the different way the "jousts" must be presented...they're hysterical when its too wet for horses...makes me think about tipping THAT act!
Wolgemot was superb!! WAY hope they come back next season- even had the King's guard in a conga line doing the Polar Bear dance....and the Chuvani belly dancing troupe's improptu addition was great too- I think they enjoyed it as well~
There have been some new additions this year- more in the works.  Come out and see us if you have the opportunity!

The one good thing though is most of the grounds are under tree cover,  that might help some...but up by the Joust and Knights pub I see it getting icky hot and not so pleasant smelling.....  :-[

What a GREAT TIME!!!  It was nice spending with all of the friendly R/F folks!  As I recall, I met them as follows:  Lord and Lady Alberon (with Lord Logan), then Capt Hunnar Greybeard and Charity/T-something (sorry!), then Amy J and Bob, and finally act2redux.  Wonderful people, one and all!

It was wonderful talking with each and every one of you!  Lord and Lady Alberon, I hope it wasn't too much trouble returning those extra shirts today, we sincerely appreciate it!  Capt Greybeard and Charity, I hope you are able to continue having good luck when you exchange that corset.  AmyJ and Bob, have fun with your nephew!  And act2redux, thank-you for introducing me to your rescued puppy, she was wonderful!

Something unexpected:  they introduced me to the custom of sharing flasks.  I think I had 4 shots in me before 11:00!  Unfortunately, I was not prepared to reciprocate of the lovely adult beverages (some special blend of Capt Morgans, some butter rum loki, some lemon loki that WAS TO DIE FOR!, and some other something).  I will never come to faire again without something to share!

Oh, and thank-you Lady Renee Buchanan for all of your positive comments elsewhere on the board about the Friends of Faire in St Louis (Les Ami de Lyon).  We got that, and were blown away by the benefits.  Special changing and storage area, special relaxation area, fruit and beverages, and yesterday there was even a BBQ!  What a deal!  I sure wish Kansas City did that, it is well worth the extra $.

St Louis Ren Faire is particularly noteworthy in that its lanes are so shaded.  How wonderful to not have to be in the sunlight all of the time!

Can you believe that turkey legs are $8 this year?  Both my wife and my daughter bought one.  The beer was reasonable, I bought Bass Ale for $4 a pint.

Saw 3 Pints Gone (all 4 sets) and the Musical Blades.  Also caught Merlin and Molly a few times.  Fantastic acts!  The King Sing was a great way to end the faire!

My son and I went to Molly Malone's afterwards to see 3 Pints Gone and the Musical Blades there.  Very nice indeed!

Thank-you, R/F'ers of St Louis, for your exceptional hospitality, and making this first visit to your great faire so memorable!  We will definitely be back again!

Greetings All!

Myself and Diamond will be out at Petit Lyon this weekend though, not in garb.  We are actually taking semi-vacation and working weekend in that we are up to visit with family and friends performing at the festival as well as promoting the festival we own, Missouri Renaissance Festival, to the vendors, patrons, and performers.  Look for the matching bright Kelly Green T-shirts with the white Celtic Harp on the front and that would be us!

Looking forward to seeing anyone who is out and about this weekend.  And for those of you with the traveling bug, come down July 24th & 25th to Neosho, Missouri (SW Corner of the state by Oklahoma) and visit our humble festival.

Fair Winds!
Emerald
