Oh alright you posted in both places...lol...I suppose that's ok, ROFL ;)
there's a loyal "Castleteer",
the good man KyDavid.
thank you kind Sir for post'n thee reminder.
it not be that far off for thee "Gather'n",
consider'n that these plan for thee fifth(Penta) "Gather'n" start'd, lets see, me thinks it was last Nov.
so it has been about seven months since our last "Gather'n" and plann'n start'd,
and we only have about three months to go.
so make thy plans,
PENTA a "Castleteer Gather'n",
will be upon us in no time.
i be the Old Tinker and his Belle...
Old Tinker does not recall The 4th Gatherin?? Yes, much ale flowed, in addition to many flavorful meads, mayhaps Tinker was further in his cups than he seemed.
;D
To whom it may or may not concern...the hotel is booked for the evening of Saturday, September 13!!!! This does not necessarily mean that I will, or will not, be sleeping (and I use that term loosely) on the castle floor, but it does mean that I will have someplace to shower the following morning...as I will be attending the festival on Sunday as well. Can't wait to see you all again. Until then...

I actually have a relevant question (for once)...
FOOD: Are we doing the potluck routine this time around? Personally speaking, I assume I will be well fed, compliments of the ORF, but...are there others that are not visiting the faire and just doing the castle? Should we just bring snacks? Should this question be it's own topic? What are everyone's thoughts?

Tis a good question indeed ... please let us know what is needed, and Lady Guinness and I will certainly get it.
Oh, yes.....there will be food!

I'm not much of a cook but I am a master at buying Ale! Many years of experience ;)

And my first ever batch of Loki will be fully cured then!
Loki Loki Loki Loki !
LOKI? Never had it. But, after reading its ingredients off another website, it seems possible I could potentially forget my own name. A friend told me about it once and said that if I consume it, I may get a bit of a buzz. This is kind of like saying that after you jump off your roof, you may experience contact with the ground. With that in mind, it is probably a good idea to have some "eats" around to temper the affects of the aforementioned beverage....which brings us full circle...FOOD.
I've got a decent 3-bean chili recipe I could make.
(Then again, maybe not a good idea with ale AND Loki...does the castle have a commode and is it equipped with a seat belt?)
Well heck ... if we are going the chili route, I can bring some hard boiled eggs and baked beans ... that and some nice warm budwiser (yuck) should do the trick!
Them porta-privies in the parking lot will be ready to launch in ..10..9..8..7.......
with that, this Old Tinker will scratch down on thee "Calendar", food item that may end up at our "Gather'n" after thee R/F Invasion at OHRF.
so we have SNS-three bean chili, Scotsman-HIS Hard Boiled Eggs and baked beans,
now gents, thee "Castlet" has a small zapper(micro), can not recall right now if it has a hot plate, but me thinks so. last "Castleteer Gather'n" we used thee fire-ring to heat things, such as "Thee Cauldron of Ultimate Pot Luck", prepared by Good Peter "Thee Beer Slayer". thee good "Captain humphrey" will have to be ask'd, if they burn in thee summer.
so's just to let thee know ;)
me Belle and me will also bring some breads and cheez'es.
Psst.... see thee soon Lady of Silence,
i be the Old Tinker and his Belle...
Tinker, Tell your lovely Belle that I will indeed be bringing my strawberries again, she needs not worry.

Tink
oh dear...I didn't even make it through ONE of those! lol!
I had 2 of those strawberries...
...couldn't find my weed puller with both hands. ;D
I'll definitely work on another batch or five of Loki in time for the gathering. I may even have some Pomegranate Loki left over after Blue's invasion of Kentucky... Yeaaaaaaah right. Well, there's always more to be made! ;) Perhaps an apple crumble flavor? Hmmm... the possibilities!

Tink, I was joking about the eggs and beans.
Since we are on the road you will have to count on us for store bought products ... do we need plates, flatware and such? Or we can provide drinks, or snacks - just let me know what is best and we are on it.
good Scotsman,
Hmm, yes, this is why i was try'n to explain what was available at thee "Castle".
me Belle and me are do'n as thee and thy beautiful Lady shall. we will pick up things closer to "Castle".
rather than a meal, me's was think'n that plenty of snacks and munch'ees would work out fine. otherwise there will have to be more plan'n for cook'n.
we were think'n- Barbarian Bread, chees'es and grapes (they serve this at KyHRF, it is perfect for 2nd breakfast and even'n 1/2-dinner).
so we shall change thee list'n of food-stuffs for thee "Castleteer Gather'n", (kinda want'd try those hard boil'd eggs, but mayhaps next time ;D )
i be the Old Tinker and his Belle...
First of all Scotsman if i'm gonna have a budweiser it better be cold........no let me rephrase that ice cold.Warm beer especially for two fellow M'Cracks like you and myself is like highway robbery. ;D As fas as the castleteers while I was reading the list of people to attend i noticed that it was to be held on the day of yours and Lady G's anniversary. Please let me be the first one to wish my M'Crack brother and his lady a very happy early anniversary.May the two of you share many years of happiness together. ;D

( Psst, me Belle and me have not forgott'n good Scotsman, :o ;D ;) , thee challenge is still on, on whom will buy for whom :) , but do not tell anyone, due to make'n it to easy for others to want to treat thee and Lady G, and then it would be no contest, cause with thy two reputations, all will buy an ale or two for thy anniversary and that would make me Belle and me easy winners. he he he ;) i be the Old Tinker and his Belle...

The chili does take a bit of prep...and, I would need a big pot to keep it hot all evening. (Plus, the black bean chili and breadbowl at OHF can cure anyone's fix for chili) I'll revisit the snackin-appetizer-esque menu and see if I can come up with something else. Stand by Houston....

-Disarono (amaretto type stuff)
-Peppermint Schnapps
-a 6-pack of Guinness (or two...or three...xD)
I also thought I'd bring my veggie pizza (if ya wanna know what it's made of, it's in the recipe thread, wherever that may be. xD) if you wanted another snacky-type food.
Oh! I also have a shotglass checker board, if anyone's interested.

Tink: For the list'n O eats...put me down for tortilla chips and dips. It looks we've got the spam covered!
And, as always, some Rumplemintz to share!
P.S. 8 weeks and counting down...
I'll make cookies again! :D Just not....seven....dozen....like last time....
And *fingers crossed* the leftovers won't be shrapnel this time!!
Cara what kind of cookies do you have in mind to make. For me I have a few different kinds that i like.
does anyone have a Castleteer pin from the last stay. My Ladys pin has been lost at a distant faire, We will be at the Penta and will be bringing a home made pasta salad and hot pepper relish
Hey all,
Just a note, refrigeration is in short supply, so make sure any food stuffs and/or liquids are going to be safe while at the fair. My personal plan is to have a healthy snack of ren crap just before I head out of faire, to the castle. Should tide me over, me thinks.
If I read correctly, Tink asked if we "burn" in the summer? Sho'nuff. As evidenced by the lack of canopy over the fire pit, we burn year round.
Err...my veggie pizza's not going to pan out. I just realized how small my cooler really is. O.o
If Cara's not already supplying chocolate chip cookies, I'd be more than happy to whip up a batch...maybe half chocolate peanut butter at that. ^.^ We can also do general snacky things...just let me know of anything that's needed. =D
Okay jinx now you've got my mouth watering over the half peanut butter half choclate chip cookies your talking about making for Castleteers-Penta.
Heehee! Maybe I'll just make those, then. ^.^ They're really easy, at that.
Jinx is my new best friend now. She's gonna make the half and half cookies goooooooooooodiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeee. ;D Watch out chocolate lovers these cookies may end up stealing the show. ;D
Lol well if we're having the Cauldron of Good Luck again, I'm bringing cornbread to eat with the stew! I don't know why I'm on such a cornbread kick right now...
Mmmm, cornbread. O.O
Lady Pegos and me will probably bring more gingerbread. I think it came out ok last time ???
remember, the EARLIEST we will probably arrive at the castle is a bit after 7pm, i dont expect everyone will make it til around 8pm. the cauldren might not have tme, considering unloading, setup and then food prep.
maybe we could just order pizza? lol but, then again, my personal plan is to take advantage of the fun faire food and eat right before i leave for the rock, so i probably wont need more after that anyways :)
The cornbread was good, the ginger bread was awesome, the company of their makers, and all the rest was the best part though.
You realize, it will take a conscious effort to pace ourselves throughout the day in order to make it into the later hours at the castle ... in terms of food and beverage that is. (wink, wink, Cap'n Faye)

Excellent point ... I may be there in body ... but my mind may be elsewhere. I would just like to apologise in advance for anything I might say ;D
xD @ Scotsman
As for food, my friend and I rarely, if ever, eat Faire food (I fully admit that I'm a -very- picky eater xD). We usually keep quick sandwich stuff in the car, but we also usually go out to eat in Wilmington after we leave. If anyone else is up for that, let me know, since she and I will probably be going.

our good "Captain humphrey", has brought up a good point. due to a later arrival to thee "Castle" than most "Gather'ns", (a difference of 12noon -4PM to 8-9PM). foods stuffs should all be kinda "ready to eat stuffs". now that our good "Captain" has approve'd thee light'n of thee fire pit, me's could see turkey hot dogs, summer sausage and thee like, be'n roast'd over a fire later that eve, now that's if thee has a cooler (no green hamburger or gray hot dogs allowed). of course those think'n so, should bring charcoal just in case of lack of wood.
so now me Belle and me will also post a short list of hotels, both close to OHRF and Loveland Castle. soon ;)
we shall also update thee "Calendar of Friends", for upcome'n OHRF.
take care all,
i be the Old Tinker and his Belle...
Muchly discussed, many a recipe extolled, AuntyLou hath arrived upon some savory combinations for fruity pies. Just You Wait!
Meaty pies are especially requested by me rogue, Curtro. Mushrooms he would prefer to be omitted, as they qualify not as meat, Curtro does engage in a bit of meat snobbery.
Should time contraints allow, veggie pies are to make an appearance. All are requested to post any veggie suggestions, special requests, and reports of past successes should any be recalled. AuntyLou hath provided a vendor for puff pasty shells, in the hopes that this be simpler than anticipated, but I do go on a bit.....
:D
Well, if needs be to have pies with vegetables, I vote chicken. That is as much vegetable as it should be.
Onions, Garlic and mushroom, not as vegetables, but as flavour for the meat and possibly cheese which makes up the rightful whole of the pie.
The cookies I'll be bringing are a special recipe of Russian tea cakes, and a combination of Cinnamon drops and peppermint drops....and i may bring plain old homemade chocolate chip!
Unless I misremember, Russian Tea cakes contain neither meat nor cheese. :(

How does one become a Castletter? And if I can join would ye all mind a scruffy Irishman from Great Lakes Medieval Faire being around?

All are welcome here! All are welcome! Walk into the light, walk...oh, wait! Wrong welcome!
Castleteers are those brave souls who spend a night at the Castle and make a new friend in doing so. Any who will join us in doing this is counted a Castleteer and a friend. Both are welcome, no matter what Faire they call home.
If you would be counted in this number, then you too are welcome, Geoffrey_Devaney_of_Tyron.

we be round'n the courner of three-quarters of the 100 mark for attendance, :o , not bad good peoples, not bad at all. now all recall that if thee is not a "Castleteer" as of yet, there are three requirements that our most generous "Captain" of the "Castleteers"( good "Captain humphrey"), has proclaim'd as a necessary must to become a "Castleteer".
they are as follows;
#1- must spend the night in or on thee grounds of "Loveland Castle".
#2- one must make a new friend.
#3- dur'n the even'n, one must laugh at some point.
me's knows these are very tough requirements for rennies to accomplish ::) but our "Captain" has lay'd down the Law. and if thee "Captain" says you must, then we must.
the day grows closer and closer, so prepare thy-selves.

How does one become a Castletter? And if I can join would ye all mind a scruffy Irishman from Great Lakes Medieval Faire being around?
GD
Geoffrey, I was wondering when you'd find your way over here!

Really, which truth comment was that since it's hard to tell. ???

Looks like I won't be attending OHRF again this year, my mother has been ill and she was in the hospital the whole week and I need to be here for her when she gets home since she might not be able to get out of bed for a few days or more when she's released.
Jeff
I'm sorry to hear that, Geoffrey! I wish your mother a speedy recovery, and I hope that you will be able to visit our shire in the future. ^.^

I hope so too. But, maybe, just maybe I'll come later in the run this year if things get better and if I get this new job I'll have the chance.

Very Dry, as in your bed roll will stay dry.
but
Very Wet, as in you can drink anything you bring in.
Jeez. Saturday should be tomorrow. xD Courtney (the friend I will be bringing) and I were up waaay too late last night getting plans made.
Enough with the work-week says I!

I was thinking that after a day at faire, then drinking all night, most folks would smell like they were actually from the Middle Ages. I know that a nice hot shower would sure feel good after a day at the Faire.
That is why I got a room (not for sleeping, just for showering, and perhaps spending a bit of time on porcelain) at the nearby Days Inn.
According to Google Maps, it is 2.8 miles West of the Castle (perhaps twice that by road), so a quick trip past in the AM should work just fine.
At $35.00 +Tax for the night, about $42.00 total, it sounded like a good deal. I would suggest that some of the rest of you might consider doing the same.

Benefit of living within an hour of both Faire and the Castle. =D
We'll be ducking out a bit early on Saturday to get clean and pick up the cold stuff we'll be bringing to the castle...and my futon mattress. xD We were gonna bring Courtney's air mattress, but it apparently met its demise in a rather creative way that you'll all have to ask her about.
We also reserved a room at the Days Inn, but we are going to be in Ohio for a day prior to the Festival for the Cincinnati Celtic Festival. So we just thought that due to limited Castle sleeping space, and we have already stayed there, we would just reserve a room and retreat there when the others go to bed...
A friend of mine would like to come. Some of you met my sons Quinn and Sawyer, their dad also grew up in Loveland and visited the castle now and then. And of course, he's a huge fan of the renaissance festival. His name is Jarod. I hope it's ok, I think he would have a lot of fun!
lol, as much as I want the day to be here, I need the time to fiinish my garb! The Lady Knight is gonna be awesome!
The day is finally drawing near!! Huzzah!! Being as I'm meeting most of you all folks for the first time.. I can only apologize in advance (sober) for myself after a day at the faire with multiple types of drink! ::) I just like to have fun, what can I say? ;D
Until then! Be well!
I second that ... what she said ;D

Well, after 8 days without power, a few days trying to get images from a dying SD card and a couple days of general malaise, I have posted my pictures of ORF and the Saturday night Castle party.
