I'll probably see it, but most likely only in passing. I'm on the street cast this year though and I can tell you with certainty that the story is pretty sweet!

I can't wait for opening weekend already!

I've lost track of the sewing I gotta get done before we open! lol

I can't wait though! Not sure yet where I'll be working.

At least we have time before we open. Which is good because I have a bunch of songs I need to memorize (I'm singing in the madrigals) and dances to learn (I'm dancing too)

And we still have rehearsals for characters and all that. Though everything is already coming together nicely. Our fights this year are pretty epic and I already love the ones I have seen! :D

Though Jayde, once you know where you'll be let us know so we can stop in and say Hi, even if I have to do so in character, lol.

I definitely will let you know as soon as I do. then again, sometimes I'm hard to miss lol.

only a few weeks left and still lots to do .. piles of orders that haven't even been unpacked ;(
at least this year i have tons of help from my old KRF crew .
i think i'll be there everyday during set up week  this year , since i have 2 booths to set up now .
with all this rain and most likely a warm season , it will be a very buggy faire i think , this year . i'll still haven't unpacked my citronella yet either .see you all soon

So how is this faire? worth driving 3 hours for?
Title: Re: 2009 season is coming ..
Post by: Lady_Claira on August 09, 2009, 09:33:54 PM
As one of the cast members, of course I'm going to say yes! lol (Part of why I reccomended it)

We are still preparing and putting it all together, but as someone who already knows this years story (don't ask, I'm not sharing it) I'll say with certainty that it's funny and I like it. The madrigals show is already coming together and the fight scenes are looking great though no where near up to speed yet.

We still have to really start rehearsals (which isn't for another two weeks) but I love it.

It is smaller than other faires, but it is fun. It is a King Arthur story every year (so I don't mind saying that much) and it isn't on a permanent faire ground so you don't get the luxury of permanent ren like buildings. But it is still fun.

this faire is well worth your your time for many reasons , and i'm not just saying that because i'm a vendor ;)

this faire started as a small 1 weekend faire and grew every year , but never lost its close family like attitude that the cast , volunteers and vendors share . this great feeling is reflected to our guests and they feel welcomed and well entertained . the cast is excellent and they really get into interacting with guests . the vendor provide a very wide range of goods . the site is a soft site but there is many places to hide in on the very rainy days . 2 stages have gigantic tents over them and provide a place to eat as well . be sure to come visit me and let me know if my description was accurate. you'll know my booth when you see it . it looks like a dungeon and is an actual building . i sell incense , if you can stand the smell ;)  , i'm used to it by now .

We, The Brigands, perform up an down the East Coast, at all kinds of faires, festivals.
Connecticut Renaissaince Faire is our HOME! And it feels like it too. Really good cast and singing,  who love to interact with the patrons.  The management truely cares about the experience.
They have improved every year we have played there ( 7 years now) and we expect this year to continue.

Worth 3 hour drive?  I should say so.

Yay for singers! I'm singing this year in the madrigals. They are pretty tough this year and all of them fit the time frame of midieval to renaissance. So that's really cool! :D

And I shall have to keep my eye out for The Brigands

The Brigands were about 40 feet  my booth 2 years ago and i heard them all day , very fun music .
by the end of the second day i began to unconsciously sing along ;)
great stuff well worth a listen .hopefully they will be under the tavern stage again .

oignuc....if you're going to stay on site, you definitely have to check out the Stone Soupo Ceiligh (sp?). It's a wonderful group of us who camp onsite and it turns into one big potluck. All they ask in return is either a monetary (a buck or two) toward the propane kitty for the grills or a food donation of your choice. Preferably enough for yourself and a few others. It's loads of fun!  ;D

that goes for you as well lady Claira...

Oh my, I've been gone too long  -Its almost faire time in Hebron and I haven't posted in neigh a month - Hello Oignuc, its good to hear that you'll be back.  I've signed up to volunteer again (for what, my 5th straight year?) and I'm looking forward to it more than ever!  I volunteered for either Security or Town Criers, with the only condition being that I'm not made to wear one of those "Security" T-shirts.  Give me Garb, or give me Death!

ummm lol as you could have guessed by the posts in this thread...those of us posting so far are involved with Connecticut Renaissance Faire, in some way (CRF, I think of Carolina Ren faire).

I have been to both PARF and CTRF (I have worked the past 3 years at this one). It's kind of hard, to me, to try and compare the 2. PARF is a much larger scale faire than we are, not to mention they are a hard site, whereas we are not. Another difference is that CTRF is a dry faire. Also, CTRF's storyline is more Athurian based, whereas PARF's (I believe) is Elizabeth I based.

I personally love both faires, but that is in part because I have friends at both.
Title: Re: 2009 season is coming ..
Post by: duffy on August 22, 2009, 10:47:54 AM
well, we decided we will be visiting your faire. i figured it was smaller and being dry doesnt bother us one bit. it just works out better and cheaper for us to go to ctrf. i do look forward to hearing the brigands play. sterling is our home faire and the only one we have been to so far. so what should we make sure to see? we enjoy the music and shopping at the booths the most. any reccomendations as of what garb is best? i know it will be pirate weekend there so that is probably what we will do. of coarse i will probably be a kilted pirate :)
Title: Re: 2009 season is coming ..
Post by: Jayde on August 23, 2009, 02:05:10 PM
I'm soo glad to hear someone who is not familiar with our faire saying that it being a dry site does not bother them!  ;D I have run into too many people who, when they hear it's a dry site, say "oh, nevermind, I don't wanna go if there's no alcohol"

As far as shows, I can definitely recommend the Brigands. The Pope & Cardinal show is pretty good too. Other than that I have usually been too busy working to have managed to catch many other shows (not to mention it's kind of hard to recommend just one show, when you're friends with almost all them lol). I haven't quite looked yet to see what we do have for entertainment this year.

I managed to make it out for opening and closing weekends of Sterling in 2007. I loved that faire, I was bummed that I had to miss it last year and this year. There are plenty of really good vendors, it all depends on what you're looking for, and...we got Fantasia!!!! lol

....oh! I almost forgot....if you're planning for Pirate Invasion weekend...that would be Columbus day weekend and Monday is our "Men in Kilts" contest  :D

Well full rehearsals (not just music and fight cast) start this Saturday. I cannot wait though it's going to be a long day for us. Though I can't wait. I'll definitely keep everyone posted on how amazing it is coming.
Title: Re: 2009 season is coming ..
Post by: oignuc on August 27, 2009, 08:30:48 PM
I'm sure it will all be amazing as usual . every year the cast does such a great job with interaction and story - line . I'm sad that there are so many that i miss being but those that have stayed and those that have newly joined have done great to ease the pain a bit .

example : i really miss the character , " blight " .
Title: Re: 2009 season is coming ..

Well, the story is coming together well and we started putting our characters together today. I know four things about my character and this morning I knew nothing and for someone who has never planned a fair persona it was fun and worked well.

And as for stopping by, I might have an in character reason to do so now! He he he, yay!

glad to hear everything is coming together . so far things are going well for me too . i have my flat bed truck set for 9/19/09 for transportation of the incense booth and all fixtures , freezers , refrigerators, etc. ready for the food booth . the amazing thing is that there is plenty of help this year ! i have most of my old KRF crew coming this year to help at my booth.

Two more weeks till faire starts. I'm getting more and more excited and more and more nervous at the same time because it is going to be interesting.

Though it looks like I'm going to be able to join in on the camping. I'm close enough though that if it looks like it is going to be a horridly wet weekend, I might go home for the nights since I'm an hour away, but overall, I'm really excited about the whole deal.

If I get a break from rehearsal, then I certainly will. Though I'm not quite sure how much of a break I will have.

I did however get my costume today. (Yes, I said costume. I'm not going to change that term either due to the theatrical implications I am trying to give it.) and I absolutely love it.

I am also probably going to camp over night on the weekends. So I'm looking forward to that as well.

Title: Re: 2009 season is coming ..
Post by: oignuc on September 16, 2009, 02:48:29 PM
convenient , yes . but not easy or cheap to get it there ;(
after the tropical storms that raged through the majority of the 2005 season i thought very long about building that . my other options were to rent a tent and put a temporary floor = about $1500.00 or buy a period tent and put a floor in it = $2000.00 + . for that money i bought the material and built what i have now . when the faire finds their own land i can park permently and save another $1000 in transportation fees . then i can blow out the back wall and make it larger .
I'll see you all Saturday morning .

I cannot wait for opening day.

I saw your booth getting set up Oignuc. But I'm not sure which guy you are or not. I tried to stop by and say Hi but I'm not sure I found you or not. (shrugs) But I did find your booth. It wasn't very hard to find with us cast members constantly going in and out of the pub tent. LOL

For anyone coming to faire, I'll be playing Isabella Lockstitch the town Seamstress and will be running around all over the faire all day. I will probably not be able to do any kind of meet up. But, I'm sure you'll be able to find me and I hope you do! I'd love to stop and say Hi! :D

Who have you been e-mailing? The management became completely rearranged this year to the point where it made some of the rehearsals a bit sticky.

If you e-mailed Dan Desilets, then you may not get an answer because he is no longer one of the owners of the faire. I would try contacting Eric Tetreault. Though I do warn that lately he is incredibly busy preparing for the opening tomorrow. I'm not quite sure the e-mail though.

It looks like a wonderful day for opening CTRF - I won't be there this weekend as I'll be catching the Pipes in the Valley Celtic festival in Hartford (My lovely spouse is a McIntyre, what can I do?). Its too bad that they have to compete ove this weekend, but I'll be there next Saturday.

Hey, its another chance to listen to bagpipes, wear my kilt and drink craft beer.  One of the main sponsors is the Burnside Brewery, and I hear that their Dirty Penny Ale is outstanding ....

See you next weekend.

Opening weekend went mostly well.

Saturday was lovely. The weather was beautiful. Things went well. It was fun getting used to interacting with patrons during the day and remembering all of my bits.

Today was really wet (but I must say I am so glad I bought the cloak I did. It kept me warm and dry.)

Though I am also quite happy I got to meet Capt Robertsgrave Thighbighter of the Brigands. That made me smile. Their music is really good by the way. I'm not saying that because he's here and all that. I'm saying it because it was INCREDIBLE!

And we saw many, but not all, of our friends of Faire.  Please if you are on these august boards and are at CTRF during the run, please come by one of our shows and say hello!
We rarely get time to do walk-abouts, and who knows, you may actually LIKE pirate music!

Jayde, exactly where is your booth? I'll stop by and say hi!

Oignuc, since you're positioned just right, I have to ask... what did you think of the madrigal singers or were we drowned out by the Brigands (because the two of us play right next to each other at the same time - lol)
Title: Re: 2009 season is coming ..
Post by: oignuc on September 28, 2009, 07:16:50 PM
i was there on set -up Saturday and Sunday and was able to hear the madrigal singers clear and unobstructed and it was excellent !!! Both John ( one of my workers ) and myself said to each other that with both acts so close at the same time it was making the madrigals very hard to hear in the form that it was intended . you should seriouly try to reschedule after or before the other much louder show . Both are great but not at the same time .

Oignuc, the problem with scheduling madrigals for other times during the day is that many of the actors in the group have shows all day to run to and I know that figuring out how the schedule was going to work was amazingly hard because of the number of people in different shows. Though I agree that timing stinks.

Alright then Jayde. I will try and find it this coming weekend to say hi!

It was great meeting you Jade and Oignuc !!  I'm watching Saturdays weather..... So I may wait till Sunday to drive down again.  I'd like to catch the joust again from another angle.  I was up on the hill and have some great pictures, but was  a little dissapointed I couldn't hear much with the croud talking.  I want to try and see if I can catch one of the Brigands preformances and met more members of R/F.com.

I'd love to meet you William of Ware. I will be playing Isabella Lockstitch, the town seamstress and I run around all day with a basket of sewing supplies. If you see me, please do say hi to me! :D

"Can't someone shut those bloody Pirates up?"; we have heard it a million times!
Let us see what can be done this weekend, M'Lady.

I wasn't thinking that at all. It is certainly not your fault that we sing at the same time. Besides I really like the songs I have heard of yours. I don't think it is that big of a deal just more of a timing sucks thing. But I have no issues with how you were playing or the volume of it and there were certainly quite a few people who stopped to listen to us madrigals for a song or two and that was nice too.

Sometimes we cannot help the cards we are dealt and if we can keep some audience members engaged while you guys are playing in the background, I certainly find that to be a wonderful challenge.

Sunday looks like ideal weather . Saturday looks ok , simply since the rain at this point will be intermittent . people who are there or just arriving  aren't going to just leave if it starts raining temporarily .

Well, good or bad weather I'll be there Saturday.  Its been a long week, and I've been looking forward to it for some time, so I'm not going to let "Scattered showers/thunder showers" scare me off.   I don't exactly know what I'm doing (my guildmaster never got in touch, so I don't know if I'm a "Guardian" or a "Town Crier"), but I'll be sure to see you all ... and Mistress Lockstitch, to help you stay in character,  I shall not address you as Lady Claira, but a humble seamstress  .... no lady you, but a lass who quite likely is carrying a big, sharp pair of knitting needles to keep scoundrels like me at bay!

'til tomorrow

Nay good frederic, not knitting needles but a basket of fabric, thread, and needles. All the things a good seamstress needs. :D

Jayde it was indeed great to meet you. It was also great to meet Frederic and William of Ware.

I have been having so much fun with faire so far. Two more weekends to go and we'll be done, which is kind of sad. But I am loving every moment so far. (Except maybe the rain. And getting stung by a yellow jacket. But otherwise, it is all good.)

Hey - the weather on Saturday wasn't all that bad - we did get some periods of no rain.  And I learned an interesting lesson - a nice thick wool cloak makes an excelent rain coat-but it weighs a bloody ton by the end of a rainy day!

I was good meeting you all - Jayde Robertsgrave and the lovely Lady Claira (Mistress Lockstitch)- and seeing Oignuc again.  A also seeing Sir Stephen, the mailed knight - he's not a member of this forum, but he's the great keeper of the front gate and peace-tier of weapons extrodinaire - and one of my oldest friends at CTRF.

Oh, and I did see that Lady Claira's madrigal group managed to solve their venue problem - the show of theirs that I caught was given from under the overhang just outide the lady's privy!  A perfect solution - the singers were under cover and out of the rain, far enough from the Tavern Stage that there was no interference from the Brigands, plenty of space for the crowd to stand listening outside - and we assume that the seated ladies inside appreciated the music too!

LOL, yeah that was fun. And we decided that during non rainy days we're moving down by the gypsy camp because there isn't any music to compete with down there at that time and it is really helpful for anyone who is dancing just before it (like me!)

So it is all good now! :D

I don't know there, Lady Claira - the weather reports I seeing do say lots of sun, but cooler temps -Sunday is supposed to have a high of only 60 - In other words, a good, crisp fall New England day.  If you and Jayde plan on wearing anything off the shoulders, I'd recommend a cloak or a shawl.

I'll be there Sunday.  Fall foliage should be pretty good, and at least we wont be dodging raindrops.

Haha Frederic. I have a costume supplied to me, so I'm wearing the same thing as always. Though it was cold today, but I happily have my new half moon cloak. Soooo warm....

Oh, chin up, Bucko - the time for crying is when its over, and we have one more weekend to go - no crying until 6PM on Sunday.   In the mean time, break out the wool cloaks and I'll see you there!  My only regret is that the cooler temps of our New England weather will lead all the fair wenches to wear more under their bodices and display less of their ... um..charms.   Oh well, I'll make do I'm sure.  ;)

And anyway, afterwards we have 12th Night to look forward too!

In all honesty, I absolutely love faire and I love the opportunities I have had and the friends I have made this season. But I'm not gonna lie. I'm glad it's coming to an end. I'm getting exhausted from it all. If I kept going much longer I would probably get really wound down from the whole thing. It's time to take a break.

Then come April when auditions start again, I'll be totally pumped for it all over again. LOL

the Faire ended very quickly this year , it seems like it was over right after it started . the early closing today was depressing  but surprised how many of those die-hards came just buy the items they wanted from past weeks . considering we had had 2 hours of sales , it was actually a good day sale-wise .

Well, I was lucky in the days I volunteered - I was manning the gate on Sunday Oct 11 (which was a wonderful day!),  and I was there yesterday- after all the weather reports got me braced for a rainy weekend, Saturday was chilly but dry, and it seemed to be a good crowd - I didn't hear the final numbers, but it was fun being there.  Listening to the rain blasting against my windows this morning, I didn't envy you, Oignuc, or Claira, for being there today.  Based on the weather in the Groton area, I don't think it got above 45 deg, or stopped raining for a moment.   Of course, Oignuc, you had that trailer-booth while poor Claira was in the cast and had to be out in the weather.   She'll probably need a couple of days wrapped in blankets and sipping Thera-flu to recover.

How'd you make out Jayde?  Were you there Sunday?

Sunday was pretty bad. It was a disgusting rain that never ended and in all honesty, I could hardly tell who was a patron and all that (cause I don't think I learned all the faces of all the venders) and I only saw four who I knew were definite patrons.

The early close, though a surprise, was honestly a good thing. I was in multiple layers of clothes designed to keep people warm in the cold and I was still freezing. It was also good cause then I could get some school work done. Though I am sooo thankful for the mercenary encampment. I stopped over there for awhile and chilled out by their fire and they also gave me some yummy warm apple cider. I also blasted the heat in the car driving home. That helped as well. I'm all set on the warming up part.

I'm definitely going to miss everyone. I made a ton of new friends among the cast members and among the members here. I met frederic, William of Ware, Jayde, and Capt Robertsgrave Thighbiter. (I never did meet Oignuc cause I was never sure who at the booth it was, lol)

In the end I'm pretty sure it was a good run. We had a day with over 3,000 people, which was nice. And yes frederic, the owners are talking of adding another weekend to the run. Though hopefully it might be the weekend before as opposed to the weekend after. lol.

I'm glad it's over. I need the sleep again. But I know in a few weeks I will be anxious for the auditions to be coming up. The friends I made this year are that amazing.

Now, to go prepare for the halloween party I was invited to. lol
